Ok, I figured it out - only needed to uses css. Validates with warning, but no error.

I took the easy way out:
deleted the WP context plugin, made my "Category sidebar" the default sidebar, and reset the other pages to new sidebars.
Now it is working and sidebars are displaying as designed.
Thanks for your help, and Happy Thanksgiving.
JumpringerMemberSolved:
/* control size of link list*/
#sidebar .widget_archive , #sidebar #archives ul li a {
font-size:14px;
}/*control color of link list */
#sidebar ul li a , #sidebar #archives a ul li a {
color:#333;

Using the plugin WP Context, I had success, except with this:
Still can't force sidebar display on my site's page11 (?page_id=11). This is a page that contains the blog list.
Here's my code, which doesn't work. Page 11 displays the default sidebar, instead of the sidebar I named "category".
function category(){
if(is_page ('11') ){
get_sidebar('category');
}
}Suggestions?

JumpringerMemberThanks Tony, I had just posted my "own" reply and then read your post. You're right, I had to get more specific.
JumpringerMemberFigured it out:
.widget-wrap .slide-excerpt-border h2 a{
color: #ccc;
}placed at bottom of stying sheet.
JumpringerMemberFor anyone who might be interested, this script enables read more/less on a page, with multiple instances.

JumpringerMemberThanks, Andrea, this is what I am looking for.
A limitation of the ShowHide plugin is that it only allows for one instance of "read more/read less" per page.
The plugin's creator does have some instruction on how to enable multiple show/hides, so I'm trying to get clarification on that.
Much appreciated!
October 29, 2013 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Contact form plugin that supports multiple forms AND google analytics? #69738JumpringerMemberThanks so much, Lynne. Somehow I missed that Contact Form 7 does support multiple forms.
JumpringerMemberBrad, I successfully used your code here: http://wpsites.net/web-design/display-different-after-header-images-in-beautiful-pro-theme/
and added one more condition, which worked fine. You rock.
JumpringerMemberJust what I was looking for! I did begin the custom field approach described in your previous post, but this technique with the conditional statement is more streamlined. I'll keep this post open until I finish my coding. Thanks again.
JumpringerMember8 additional pages each with a different image that displays beneath the header.

pastebin title:Hook with conditional statements
Thanks.
October 21, 2013 at 11:32 am in reply to: Beautiful Theme – change header image on selected pages #68069JumpringerMemberResolved for now; not the best solution as new pages/code need to be created to show different images on more than one page.
//* Remove site header banner
remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'beautiful_site_header_banner' );//*create new function and point to new css to make banner image less deep
add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'beautiful_site_header_banner_custom' );
function beautiful_site_header_banner_custom() {echo '<div class="site-header-banner-add"></div>';
}
//*end new function
October 21, 2013 at 10:47 am in reply to: Beautiful Theme – change header image on selected pages #68066JumpringerMemberGetting closer....
I've created a custom page template and want to replace a full-width image (that is positioned beneath the header) with a smaller image.
Hook is not working; syntax error unexpected '<'
Here's my code so far:
//* Remove site header banner
remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'beautiful_site_header_banner' );//*add hook for revised banner image
<?php genesis_after_header(); ?>
<div class="site-header-banner-add"> (this is a new css class to render a less deep image)
<?php genesis_header(); ?>//*end hook
October 21, 2013 at 9:34 am in reply to: Beautiful Theme – change header image on selected pages #68040JumpringerMemberThanks Brad, the plugin isn't appropriate for this as it affects the header image; in the Beautiful Template, the code that controls the display of the screen-wide image (that I want to revise) is:
remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'beautiful_site_header_banner' );
My original post was probably not clear as to which image I was referring to. If you have other suggestions, please let me know!
October 21, 2013 at 8:52 am in reply to: Beautiful Theme – change header image on selected pages #68038JumpringerMemberOK, I'm partially there; revised the landing page to eliminate the image header. Still need to display an image, just a different image from the home page.
JumpringerMemberAre you looking for a horizontal submenu, that only displays when hovered over?
If so, consider this link:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/twentytwelve-horizontal-submenu
Specifically, the example given:
main-navigation li li {
float: left;
}
.main-navigation ul ul {
width: 900px;
}This works for the "Freelance" theme, and renders on mobile.
