It seems to me that you have some code showing up in Firebug like this:
.header-image .site-title a { }
which seems to be empty. On someone else's metro site they have:
.header-image .site-title a { float: left; min-height: 100px; min-width: 500px; width: 100%; .header-image .site-title a { max-width: 500px; min-height: 80px; padding: 0; }
Maybe it would be worth seeing how those compare to what you have and experimenting with the width values to see what they affect. Your title-area seems wide enough at 300px. I sometimes try to make it a bit wider and let the image stay at 300px incase that has more room for error.
March 30, 2015 at 7:52 am in reply to: How could I stop header area / tagline crashing together on mobile size? #146099Joy GMemberThanks David!! That was great! I sorted it out straight away with that.
Joy GMemberDo you have something like this piece of code, and what width do you have?
.title-area { background: url("http://my logo etc") no-repeat scroll left top rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); float: left; padding-left: 0; width: 680px; /*was 340*/ }
Joy GMemberIn my metro theme, I made an alteration in the functions.php file as below. Did you change yours according to the link you mentioned so the 270 is 300 and the 80 is 120 like you want? I put the //* in with my notes because that hides my notes but keeps them for me to see what I did. I don't know it it is advisable to do that, but it has helped em as I learn and wanto to undo things.
//* Add support for custom header add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array( 'width' => 680, //* was 270, 'height' => 120, //*was 80, 'header-selector' => '.site-title a', 'header-text' => false ) );
If you have not already altered your functions php file be really, really careful, as one mistake can make your website go blank. You would need a 'ftp client' like 'Filezilla' set up so that you can fix any mistakes by going in there and editing the code there to get your site back to how it was. Anyhow, this is the exact code that is working on my site so it ought to be okay fro you to just change the values. (don't add it, just amend what is already there).
If you have 'Firebug' you can right click and see different thigns in the screen. it shows your title is still 270x80. You have 920px across the width of the menu and 544px with the wording 'a day of golf...' and the left hand logo, so that gives 416px left . if your title is to be 300px then I guess that gives you 116px spare in between.
I changed the css of my header-right section to be :
.site-header .widget-area { float: right; width: 200px; /*was 644*/ }
So maybe after checking your functions php you could check what the above width in your css is. It should be something between 544 and 660 given the sizes you have... I would probably go for something in the middle... Anyhow, I don't think you need to do this, bit, only check your functions.php...
Joy GMemberI was looking at it in Firebug, and it seems to me that the wording of 'a day of golf...' and the logo on the right are one image, which maybe are not taking up the full widget space, so there is some left below that, and then there seems to be some other spacing below the widget area. Also, below your main logo there is some space, which may not be necessary because the wording 'a day of golf...' has quite a bit of padding round it,
I found the following piece of code related to the wording / logo nearest the menu so maybe if you could reduce the bottom margin that might help...
.widget { margin-bottom: 32px; word-wrap: break-word; }
Joy GMemberI use Metro and I reduced the padding at these locations, which I think might help... (the first one refers to the search box in header right, I am not sure what your equivalent is.)
input, select, textarea { background-color: #f5f5f5; border: 1px solid #ddd; box-shadow: 0 0 5px #ddd inset; color: #999; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; padding: 6px; /* was 16px*/ width: 100%; } .site-inner { clear: both; padding-top: 0px; /*was 32px;*/ } .site-title a, .site-title a:hover { background-color: #f96e5b; color: #fff; display: inline-block; padding: 10px; /*was 16px*/ text-decoration: none; }
I hope this helps...
Joy GMemberSorry, I managed ot fix it...
Joy GMemberI'm using metro and in the CSS for columns there is this:
.first { clear: both; margin-left: 0; }
so I just use the following within the pages for a clear break:
<div class="first"></div>
or I put my full-width heading inbetween those divs.
Joy GMemberIt has a nice look and feel to it, and an original colour scheme. I love the decoration at the top - in the header.
My lasptop is 12.1" and I see the main content and sidebar content are both touching the right/left edges of the screen respectively, while there is about a 4cm gap between them with nothing in it.
I like how you have a green suitcase in the top picture which is the same as your company shade!
Joy GMemberIt is really nice. I like how it is actually easy to navigate to most things, even though there si a lot, and there are several simple ways to find what I looked for,
I found when I was on: http://www.cobinlaw.com/court-cost-calculator/
and clicked trust settlement, the whole page was taken up with a long list of things and only far at the bottom was "you are here" and the space for trust settlement page, but no information on it.Joy GMemberI think you have lovely designs and lovely tast in colours for all your websites, they feel nice. the only issue for me was the slider with my small screen
I am using a laptop with a 12.1" screen. Your top menu goes into two lines which blocks the tops of the titles on the slider in http://www.keddo.org/ also, the slider goes too fats for me to read what is on each one. maybe it could move more slowly and you could heve a thing on it where viwers can click to see the next slide if they miss one?
On http://oarcok.org/ because I am using a small screen laptop I can't see the words on your slider 'above the fold'.
On your blog, the white box about generation X overlaps with the slider, so I cannot see what is written on the slider.
Your about page is lovely. How did you make the photographs tilted and look like polaroids?
Joy GMemberI think it was a 'school boy error' - this was the result of having multiple Appearance>Editor>CSS screens open at once and updating an old one over a new one when the new one had a custom colour scheme selected, which I then lost.
Thank you for your concern!! I would delete this topic perhaps, because it isn't really going to help anyone!!
Joy GMemberYou can also edit the functions php. I am new to this, but it isn't too hard if you definately can access a 'ftp' client like Filezilla if it goes wrong, otherwise maybe a plugin is better (though they slow your site more). My footer says
//* Customize the credits add_filter( 'genesis_footer_creds_text', 'sp_footer_creds_text' ); function sp_footer_creds_text() { echo '<div class="creds"><p>'; echo 'Copyright © '; echo date('Y') ; echo ' . All Rights Reserved. '; echo '</p></div>'; }
So I would probaby write my company's name before the word copyright so change this line:
echo 'My Company's Name Copyright © ';
Joy GMemberThanks for your response emasai. The original front-page php, as I understand it, says "if certain sidebars are active force the default layout to be content/sidebar". However, if my middle-middle widget area is active that layout will not be possible, so I need to make some sort of conditional change like "If the middle-middle widget is active then default to full-width with no side bar"
This is the original php. I have no idea about the last bit.if ( is_active_sidebar( 'home-top' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-middle-left' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-middle-right' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-bottom' ) ) { // Force content-sidebar layout setting add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_content_sidebar' ); // Add metro-pro-home body class add_filter( 'body_class', 'metro_body_class' ); function metro_body_class( $classes ) { $classes[] = 'metro-pro-home'; return $classes; }
I registered middle-middle in the functions file, and added it the CSS where the other two home-middle widgets are, The only thing I did not do is alter front-page php yet or specify a float in CSS. I figured that home-middle-right is right, left is left, so home-middle-middle doesn't need any float.
I may well be out of my depth, but this is the only way i can learn this stuff!!
March 22, 2015 at 7:49 pm in reply to: Can anyone identify the problem with my full-width image/text widget in Metro? #145261Joy GMemberOn TwentyTwelve it is 1940x355 scaled to 927 x 169 (if I 'view image info' in firefox)
On Metro Pro Theme it is 1940x355 scaled to 888 x 162I originally made that image (a banner of 5 photos stuck together) in PowerPoint and I used a ruler held up against my 12.1" screen to measure what size it needed to be, and to make it that size before doing 'save as image' and uploading it. Maybe that means my picture will only ever look good in TwentyTwelve, but I think it ought to be able to look good in other themes.
I have tried to make a picture comparing them... no idea if it will work... and maybe it will shrink them a bit anyhow...

Brad, I have no expereince of excerpts and presume they would come from making a post? I don't think I can link from posts because my front page content too important to come from a post.
I have switched theme and I would like to restyle the sections still. However, I have one more question about this (maybe I should open a new topic... not sure...)
If using 'genesis featured page/post' widgets on the home page means more H1 titles are put the the home page source code then that is bad for my SEO. So is it better from an SEO perspective to use 'text' widgets without titles and put the title within the text, styled as something like H2, so that hopefully my only H1 is my headline?
