John, Thanks for the plugin tip - I had no idea that was out there.
However, I wonder if someone could point us in the right direction for restoring Metro Pro to the original Metro look with custom code / css instead of a plugin.
Thanks.
jhguynnMemberFYI: I sought support about this question from http://getpremise.com/ and here is the response I got back from Nick the Geek:
Jeffrey,
Thanks for checking with us.
1) I'm afraid Premise is not responsive at this time but we are working on something that will allow this to work.
2) Like I said, we don't have any responsive design, but we are working on a feature that will allow for Premise to become responsive.
Nick
jhguynnMemberHmmm...I think I just answered my own question. I watched some tutorial videos for both Dynamic Website Builder and Genesis Extender Plugin - both by Cobalt Apps. Truly amazing capabilities. I encourage anybody who hasn't heard about this to check it out for themselves (see link above).
I still invite anyone with experience with this to share here. Thanks.
jhguynnMemberOops. Thanks for the redirect.
jhguynnMemberBill Murray: Thanks for your more professional and experienced perspective on this topic, especially re: Backup Buddy. I found it helpful.
jhguynnMemberVery cool. Sundance, I pulled up your URL and resized my browser in varying degrees to watch the effect. Spectacular how well this theme now adjusts to different sizes.
jhguynnMemberNope. But I'd like to know, so I'll follow this post and bump it to the top.
jhguynnMemberAnitac: Very cool, thanks for pointing me in this direction. I note that you are using the "free" version of ServerPress right now. The list of features in the "paid" version is impressive. Do you think "free" will be sufficient for you in the long run? How easy is it to take your development sites live using the free version?
jhguynnMemberLOCALHOST + ZEND OPTIMIZER / ZEND GUARD:
Thanks to everyone who has commented here so far. AAMPS, WampServer, and ServerPress sound like great options. Perhaps someone can comment on this: which of these localhost options either comes with, or is easily compatible with, Zend Optimizer or Zend Guard? I have some plugins that I regularly use that require ZEND, and I'm hitting a roadblock in this regard with XAMPP. Thanks for the additional help.
jhguynnMemberSome other choices: wp twin and replikator pro. Google them and you'll find a sales page.
jhguynnMemberJon: Have a look at WordPress Shortcodes: http://wordpress.org/plugins/synved-shortcodes/
It has a variety of applications, such as accordion, tabbed, etc.
I have not yet tried this with a Genesis theme myself, so perhaps you could report back if you choose to do so.jhguynnMemberMany tanks to all, especially Stefsull and fox. That's exactly the perspective I needed to put my concerns to rest.
jhguynnMemberRSTYNER: Have you considered using a logo (the text "Macon Websites") with a transparent background? Might look better.
jhguynnMemberHey braddalton's reply is the most pure way to do this, to be sure. FYI: the following plugins can also help: Widget Logic, and Dynamic Widgets. Both are available here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/. The advantage of using a plugin is that you can change your priorities on the fly. Widget Logic assumes you have familiarity with wordpress logic conditionals, Dynamic Widgets is more intuitive with a point and click dashboard.
April 30, 2013 at 5:09 am in reply to: SEO Plugin Or Genesis own SEO options? Which is better? #38535jhguynnMemberI just responded to the following post: http://www.studiopress.community/topic/a-questions-about-yoast-seo-and-studiopress/
The answers there are pertinent to this thread as well re: Yoast -vs- Genesis SEO.
jhguynnMemberAnother point to make re: Yoast: He's a HUGE Genesis fan. He uses Genesis for his own site, and even hosts his site on Synthesis. Having wrestled myself with the issue of whether to use Yoast (a plugin) or the native Genesis SEO, Yoast's pro-genesis bent along with cehwitham's point above about Yoast being recognized by genesis tipped the scale in favor of Yoast for me. Reading Yoast's Blog is also very helpful: http://yoast.com/.
April 25, 2013 at 5:49 pm in reply to: New winery site based on Agency – feedback appreciated! #37750jhguynnMemberHey, one more post of praise. This is a great example of how far we can go using a studiopress theme as a starting point. Very encouraging to the rest of us who are only beginning to find our way. Beautiful work!
jhguynnMemberanitac and GaryJ - Thank you.
jhguynnMemberGaryJ - good thoughts. I'm all for the most expedient way to organize posts so they can be found again. This will make the community forum more valuable.
jhguynnMemberYup. Great idea.
