ParticipantWell I just decided to create 380x380 images and use those for the featured image.
But you've pointed me in a better direction, again 🙂
Installing and running Regenerate worked perfectly.
Thank you Andrea.

ParticipantThanks a lot Brad. I was looking for the lazy way (vs html in text widget) so Featured Widget Amplified seems like the way to go. Appreciate the help. - Greg

ParticipantHi Gary. Thanks for the reply. The thing is, it lands on the exact location of the anchor first, then jumps up and away. So it's working on the first click...then moves away. If that makes sense?
The killer (for me) is I fixed it at one point. Did some things (don't ask) and back to square one.

ParticipantSridhar, I actually did more digging and found some great info. Coincidentally...on your site! 🙂
All I'm wondering (and it's not specific to a single site) is how to (a) reduce image size used in a wide background (widgets or the actual site background)?
Looks like there are some plugins and you showed some code for a specific theme (I forget which one).
I'm using both executive and epik.
The agency theme is the perfect example of using a smaller photo image and it blows it up to fill the entire screen.
Wondering how that works.
Thank you Sridhar.

ParticipantResolved: small coding error in last text widget.
Lesson: Before spending hours scanning you css, look at your text widgets!

ParticipantUpdate: I moved some of the things inside the footer widgets around and it's a little better...although something's still off because the copyright jumps up top still.

ParticipantThanks William. You easily convinced me. Now I'm between Synthesis and WPEngine. Both seem to be pretty close with various plusses and minuses. Appreciate your thorough response. -Greg

ParticipantWell I have some needs for opt-in forms and some for more detailed contact (sales lead) info. So I'm just trying to come up with a single (easy) solution to build the various forms AND in some cases get the contacts into aweber for follow-up.
I use contact form 7 which is pretty nice for the price. Straight-forward (without getting fancy) but obviously somewhat limited.
Too many options for everything!!
Thank you Andrea 🙂

ParticipantThanks Susan. It would be nice to get away from the low-price shared hosting and, like you said, the worrying.
Can I ask why you went with WPEngine over Synthesis?
danijel.lastric, I'm researching LighteningBase right now. Thanks for sharing that. Never heard of them.

ParticipantThank you (again) Andrea!
Is the enews widget limited? Especially if I need a handful of fields beyond email address?
I'll try them all but might end up investing in gravity forms. Seems to have some nice options.

ParticipantWilliam, so you seem to be pretty set on premium wp hosting.
But you're too biased. I want to hear some on-the-fence thoughts 🙂
I realize the benefit of Synthesis or the others -- it's pretty clear. And this particular client is by no means looking to skimp on money. $27 or even $99 to host the right way is not a lot of money.
But I do think there are plenty of small business sites built on wordpress that seem to be fine with "regular" shared hosting options. But when I say "think" - it's because I'm not sure.
I'm curious, from a more technical view beyond my own (which is limited -- I'm not an IT guy). Are there really sharp downsides to hosting wordpress sites while using genesis, being smart/safe, keeping plugins limited/updated? (I have sites ranking well, running at decent speeds with lower-cost hosts.)
An example would be a local restaurant with 10 pages or a local septic company -- minimal content/blog posts. Is it, at that point, still necessary to go the premium WP hosting route?

ParticipantThanks Andrea. I think I'll give it a try. Host is going to move for me so goal would be for backup and developing on my site, then moving to client's site. I watched some videos on the backup buddy site last night. Seems pretty easy.
Thank you,
Greg

ParticipantBut it sounds like you both keep the info on your computers? Text files worry me as much as evernote and I don't know about carrying a hard drive around 🙂
I like being able to access stuff all over.
I wonder if Google Drive is a good place? The only people looking in there is Google and the US government.
Any other ideas?

ParticipantThanks Sridhar. I checked it on my phone and saw the fixed width button. That's not too good. Thanks for cleaning up the code!! I tried a few others today (I'm just experimenting with different button options for various uses) and found some with much cleaner code. Although this one seems to have nice button options without having to do much leg work.
Thank you again for taking a look.

ParticipantYeah I have a couple of different hosts I use and very happy. This just happens to be a strange case where it's pretty much out of my hands. Thanks for the replies. -Greg

ParticipantMy client asked me to go through his computer tech guy who is a reseller. So I can't get support directly from the actual host.

ParticipantThanks a lot for all the helpful replies. But it looks like I gotta wait for the reseller to step in. I have limited access, his host won't deal with me (of course) and even the PHP config in the CP is a "read only" without control options. I've always controlled hosting and this is the first time I haven't. Lesson learned.
I really appreciate the responses. I will respond with the final solution.
