MemberUnfortunately, the plugin doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to on Modern Portfolio Pro.
This theme is tricky. That jump menu is cool, but there really is not really for it to be showing on any other page but the homepage. That's all I want to do and I can't seem to figure out how.

MemberOk, so poking about I discovered the Home-Right widget code is on "front-page.php" and it looks like this:
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'mpp_enqueue_scripts' ); /** * Enqueue Scripts */ function mpp_enqueue_scripts() { if ( is_active_sidebar( 'home-about' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-portfolio' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-services' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-blog' ) ) { wp_enqueue_script( 'scrollTo', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/jquery.scrollTo.min.js', array( 'jquery' ), '1.4.5-beta', true ); wp_enqueue_script( 'localScroll', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/jquery.localScroll.min.js', array( 'scrollTo' ), '1.2.8b', true ); wp_enqueue_script( 'scroll', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/scroll.js', array( 'localScroll' ), '', true ); } } add_action( 'genesis_meta', 'mpp_home_genesis_meta' ); /** * Add widget support for homepage. If no widgets active, display the default loop. * */ function mpp_home_genesis_meta() { if ( is_active_sidebar( 'home-about' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-portfolio' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-services' ) || is_active_sidebar( 'home-blog' ) ) { // Force content-sidebar layout setting add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_full_width_content' ); // Add mpp-home body class add_filter( 'body_class', 'mpp_body_class' ); // Remove the navigation menus remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_subnav' ); // Remove breadcrumbs remove_action( 'genesis_before_loop', 'genesis_do_breadcrumbs' ); // Remove the default Genesis loop remove_action( 'genesis_loop', 'genesis_do_loop' ); // Add homepage widgets add_action( 'genesis_loop', 'mpp_homepage_widgets' ); } }
Now, hmmm..... How do I make it so that it only show on the homepage and not anywhere else?

MemberI'm going to put this on the backburner until Wednesday. I'll be away tomorrow and I have to wrap up. But I'll be back to see if I can get this one to work. It's pretty important for the overall site.

MemberLol, no... I end up with the after_entry widget in many places it should not be. In some pages even twice.
I tried replacing 'posts','page' with the names of the CPTs 'quickblog','portfolio.' but it still doesn't work right.
See below:
add_action( 'genesis_entry_footer', 'genesis_after_entry_widget_area_for_cpt', 20 ); function genesis_after_entry_widget_area_for_cpt() { if ( in_array( get_post_type(), array( 'posts','quickblog', 'portfolio' ) ) || ! current_theme_supports( 'genesis-after-entry-widget-area' ) ) { return; } genesis_widget_area( 'after-entry', array( 'before' => '<div class="after-entry widget-area">', 'after' => '</div>', ) ); }

MemberActually, that didn't quite work. I ended up with the content I looking for, but twice on the posts and still none on the CPTs.
Hold on... I'm trying to edit it to work...

Member^^^ In addition to what I already have?
Man, I have to make sure I jot down your information so that I have someone to hire when I need to debug this thing. You really know your stuff.

Member^^^ Absolute genius! ^^^ @Genesis Developer.
Just created that and added some intro content and it looks great:eluviis
Member@Genesis Developer - Hi, I've had to revisit this. I've added "genesis-cpt-archives-settings" to all my custom post types. However, there is one section I don't know how to do. The blog.
Since the blog page is a template from Genesis, and not a custom post type in the child theme, how do I add that functions to it?
Thanks in advance.

MemberThanks David, that makes sense. I'll keep that in mind. I think that armed with that I can get this to work. Cheers.

Member@coralseait - Sounds good. I'll keep that in mind. I'm surely going to have to do something to improve this soon enough.

Member^^^ Haha. Those lines are blurry. I enjoy doing all this, but I'll admit I spend a lot more time working on this business than the money it's making at the moment. However, it's one of those things where "do what you love and you will not work a day in your life."
I don't really have exact numbers on how much time I spend on social media to be honest. But I also believe that if it weren't for social media, RW wouldn't be where it is now.
I see this all as a very personal level though. A lot of people that "run websites" like you say, do it because they don't want to deal with people. Makes it easy to hide behind the screen. However, even with all the time I spend in social media, I'm willing to bet I spend more time socializing with people about in cars IN PERSON than I do online. Just recently I drove up to LA and spent a whole day in meetings with companies for an upcoming sponsorship project. I'm happy to report, the meetings went well and I got the sponsorships, so the project is a go. 🙂
What field are you in @Mealtog ?

MemberYes, you're absolutely right about G+. We have lots of followers, but oftentimes the engagement is very low. That said, we have a good handful of posts that have yielded a couple thousand likes, 300+ comments, hundreds of shares and well over 500,000 views. But those are rare. This one is a perfect example: https://plus.google.com/116126649033199284338/posts/UB1w1AQat54
Instagram is not so much for traffic as it is for brand awareness and cementing yourself as an authority. Strong accounts really do present a sense of legitimacy and credibility. Plus, it's a very fun network that I truly enjoy using.
We are doing pretty good on Pinterest. That said, it's not as good for cars as it is for hats, blouses and necklaces. And Facebook, that's a whole other story. If you started building pages early on, you're in luck. Nowadays it's much harder. See, you need shares to grow organically, but no one will share your stuff if you are not already big, which means you need to pay to play. The trick is to know how to target your potential audience with ads and also have the budget. Unless you get big, you can expect people won't be bothered to share your stuff. At 2,000 likers, we're are nowhere near the authority we need to be shared. When we get to 10,000 likers, things might change.
We have had a number of articles go viral on Facebook, and have also gotten a few that have been popular on Stumbleupon and Reddit. That said, I've been so busy with the site, the photography and the other social media channels that I honestly don't even understand those last two networks yet. But, yes, they are on my radar to tackle them soon, thanks.

Member@Mealtog - Thank you! Very inspiring words there. I appreciate it.
Yeah, this had been a labor of love and it has grown quite well. I even have a sponsored show car coming up this early spring that will be tied to the site's branding.
Cars is a hugely competitive market. But I'm in the right place. If I weren't in SoCal I wouldn't even bother.
Social media has certainly helped a lot. Specially Instagram where were currently managing 37,000 followers. G+ has been good too, now at 65,000 followers - But they are much ore dormant than the IG folks. FB has been tricky, but it has started growing now.

Member^^^ Hi @Mealtog - Thanks for the great advice.
Yes, I'm currently running shared hosting - though one of the "better" shared hosting plans. Pretty much the best setup before going VPS, Semi-dedicated, or something of sorts.
I'm not currently running caching, but I was running WP Super Cache a week or two ago, so that's what you may be seeing. I turned off Super Cache while I've been making some website updates, because I was getting fed up with not seeing my updates immediately. Also, I've been planning on switching over the W3 Total Cache instead very soon.
So here's the plan:
1. I'll see about using more galleries instead of so many 750px images on my main posts. I'll still use a few, but with most images in galleries, the posts will load faster because the thumbnails are only 330px.
2. I'll install and configure W3 Total Cache after that.
3. I can't afford it just yet, but when I can justify it, I'll move the site to a VPS, Semi-dedicated server or maybe Copyblogger's Synthesis or something.
Thanks for the good words on the images. I shoot just about everything that's on the site myself.

MemberIMPORTANT UPDATE: The 20 second page speed I noted about was Google's page speed report average. The results from GTmetrix and Pingdom are much better:
GTmetrix: 5.62 seconds
Pingdom: 2.95 seconds.eluviis
MemberIs there possibly a plugin that barring the featured image will load all the other images AFTER the page has fully loaded? Possibly AFTER the visitor starts scrolling or something?
I need the images there, but I HAVE to get the page load times down.
I noticed that the site Petrolicious.com has something like that. In their articles, when you start scrolling, the images posted below begin loading. Here's an example: http://www.petrolicious.com/this-is-how-ferrari-na-parties
Note how the images begin popping up as you scroll down.

Member@Kellylise - Heh! Thanks for those. But, meh, I can't get them to work right. The code for those tutorials is much different then the the one I'm using with the "echo" calls.
I still tried and I replaced my original code with the one here: https://gist.githubusercontent.com/braddalton/416c4d97b2b17863732d/raw/functions.php and I added the array of custom post types I use.
That worked, and the featured images were displaying in "medium" size. But then I ended up with a problem I had originally where those featured images would be linked to the post itself. I had managed to remove that from the code I was using originally, but I can't get it to work with this new one.
Eh, I've spent way too much time on this. I'll stick with the large image scaled down. An extra 100kb per featured image on posts is not going to ruin my day. Plus it looks better on retina displays anyway. On archives, the thumbnails are displayed, so I'm good there. It's only the image above the posts, in the post themselves were the issue is. I'll leave it as is.

Member@Kellylise - I found another plugin that I'm using the regenerate the thumbnails. It's great because I don't have to delete the old size if I don't want to. So far it's working flawlessly: https://wordpress.org/plugins/image-regenerate-select-crop/ - I'm planning on deleting the plugin once I do the regeneration. I'm testing it on a local installation first.
However, I do need help with one small thing:
After going through this thread and making a few changes to the code, I ended up with the code below:
/** Custom - Add the featured image section */ add_action( 'genesis_before_entry_content', 'magazine_featured_image' ); function magazine_featured_image() { if ( is_singular( array( 'post', 'page', 'specialty', 'event', 'quickblog', 'portfolio' ) ) && has_post_thumbnail() ){ echo '<div id="featured-image">'; echo get_the_post_thumbnail($thumbnail->ID, 'header'); echo '</div>'; } }
It works great. However, there is one caveat. I use large images for the main image uploaded (1140px). That image gets resized down to the other sizes my theme uses.
However, while I want to keep that large image size in the files (1140px) as I use it for zooming, I don’t want to display said 1140px as the main image on the post. I want the featured image to display in my medium size of 750px wide. Currently, the 1140px image is just getting squished down to fit the main body. While that helps it look great in a retina display for example, it also makes the page heavier.
Is there any way to modify the code above to have it display the “medium” image instead of the largest image in the set?

MemberHi @Davinder, I got busy with a redesign and had put this on the backburner. I'm revisiting it now. Let's see how that works. Thanks
