Go to Genesis > Seo Settings option and then uncheck “Use semantic HTML5 page and section headings throughout site?“.
Keep the “Site Title” option selected and click Save Changes button. Once you do this, your HTML5 theme will generate only one h1 tag for the post title in single post pages and site title on the homepage. Then you should be able to modify your headers.

It is still in closed beta, though it should be available to download in the next month or two.

2. Genesis themes are released under a GPL license, so any themes that you create need to adhere to the terms of that license. Studiopress doesn't have any restrictions with regard to selling themes that you have created, but should you wish to sell any themes that you've designed via ThemeForest or similar sites you'll want to check with them about their rules or limitations.
While GPL does allow you to freely share anything created under it, the Studiopress terms do not allow for straight resale of their products as they are. What you're describing sounds like you intend to sell modified versions of our themes, which is legally permissible. However, you should note that you will also be subject to the same licensing freedoms that you're finding with Studiopress, since your themes will also be derivative of something GPL, so anyone will be able to freely share and resell your product with modifications.
Please make sure that your customers are aware that Studiopress cannot support any theme that you sell as a child theme. Also, the Genesis framework will need to be purchased through us should your customers require help from our support staff.
I've found that the best approach on something like this is to become an affiliate and direct your customers to purchase the framework through your affiliate link. The benefit of this is twofold: You make a generous commission on each sale, and your clients establish an account with licensed themes which makes them eligible for lifetime updates and support should they ever need them.

I've used Yoast and Genesis for years. You are correct - the built in functions of Genesis will turn off when you activate Yoast. Genesis settings are similar to the Yoast’s WordPress SEO settings - which may or may not cause duplication of settings and meta tags. But, Yoast does include more functionality.
I love the Yoast plugin. The excerpt ability, open graph, etc - and have never had any ranking problems. In fact, I've used it on sites with hundreds of thousands of hits a month.
The only issue I have run into is that rel=next and rel=prev overwrite each other.
If you are just looking for a simple xml sitemap, I agree with nuts and bolts. If you need help setting up Yoast plugin, Id be happy to help.

Great looking site. I checked your css, and found the problem:
/* Site Header ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- */ .site-header { background-color: #fff; }
try adding:
/* Site Header ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- */ .site-header { background-color: #fff; min-width: 1140px; }
You may need to make it a little larger. Let me know if that helps?

Not sure if you are looking for another free theme, but I built one just recently. I also do my best to support it. You can download it on github: https://github.com/elioverbey/Engage - HTML5, responsive

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantI checked out your site. You'll have a hard time ranking for anything because your site seems to be a shell site for amazon referral traffic.
Consider adding some unique content. The technical structure looks fine - even the robots.txt.

remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); add_action( 'genesis_before_header', 'genesis_do_nav' );
That will move the primary nav outside the header. Once again, I'm not sure if that is what you wanted because I can't see anything. but please let me know if that helps.

display:block

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantYou can navigate to line 1016 in your css and remove:
.responsive-menu { display: none; }
That will make the nav show on load, but be careful - that means that you have to click the hamburger for the nav to disappear. Also, when viewing it on a smaller screen, you'll need to adjust your @media styles.

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantDo be careful about display:none - there isn't much of a consensus on how Google sees that. Not to mention that it could come across that you are trying to hide text.
Does this not work? It's different that the link posted above:
//* Remove Genesis grid loop remove_action( ‘genesis_loop’, ‘minimum_grid_loop_helper’ );

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterMarch 24, 2014 at 10:44 pm in reply to: How do I use 1 footer instead of the 3 (eleven40 pro) #96511elioverbeyParticipantHere are the instructions to have a single footer widget area:
In functions.php
/** Remove Genesis footer widgets **/ remove_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 3 );
Now that you’ve removed the footer widget it’s easy to add just a single footer widget area:
/** Add support for 1 footer widget **/ add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 1 );
Now, the Genesis CSS will have styling for 3 footer areas. You can remove it and start with the following:
.footer-widgets-1 { text-align: center; width: 100%; }

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantI tried this and it works as well. It just removes the shrinking action completely.
jQuery(function( $ ){ $("header .genesis-nav-menu").addClass("responsive-menu").before('<div id="responsive-menu-icon"></div>'); $("#responsive-menu-icon").click(function(){ $("header .genesis-nav-menu").slideToggle(); }); $(window).resize(function(){ if(window.innerWidth > 600) { $("header .genesis-nav-menu").removeAttr("style"); } }); });
The CSS above will work, but I haven't fixed it when you add a custom menu in the header right. I am sure you will have to adjust your padding and margin there.

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantThis is a hack but it worked for me 🙂 Just replace the code below with the code in /js/global.js. The only difference is that I remove the "shrink" class in line 7.
jQuery(function( $ ){ $(".site-header").after('<div class="bumper"></div>'); $(window).scroll(function () { if ($(document).scrollTop() > 1 ) { $('.site-header').removeClass('shrink'); } else { $('.site-header').removeClass('shrink'); } }); $("header .genesis-nav-menu").addClass("responsive-menu").before('<div id="responsive-menu-icon"></div>'); $("#responsive-menu-icon").click(function(){ $("header .genesis-nav-menu").slideToggle(); }); $(window).resize(function(){ if(window.innerWidth > 600) { $("header .genesis-nav-menu").removeAttr("style"); } }); });
Then, it's just simple css:
/* On Line 1049 Change: */ .site-header .wrap { min-height: 30px; } /* On Line 1053 Change: */ .bumper { min-height: 30px; } /* On Line 1057 Change: */ .site-header .wrap { padding: 10px; max-width: 100%; } /* On Line 1083 Change: */ .site-title { font-family: 'Spinnaker', sans-serif; font-size: 30px; font-weight: 700; line-height: 1.2; } /* On Line 2242, Find and DELETE: */ .site-header .wrap { padding: 20px 5% 0; } .site-header.shrink .wrap { padding: 0px 5%; } /* On Line 2330, Find and DELETE: */ .site-header .wrap { min-height: 100px; } .site-header .site-title { font-size: 40px; } .shrink .site-title { font-size: 24px; }
I hope that works for you. You can edit the css for your needs!

Visit me here: elioverbey.net | Connect on TwitterelioverbeyParticipantI answered my own question:
In order to fix it - If you do want multiple h1 tags and still want goodness of html5 theme – then here is quick setting to fix for Genesis users (if you believe this is a problem!).
Here is the reasoning why:
If are coding or already using HTML5 child theme for new Genesis 2.0 version – you may have notice multiple h1 tags issue. As per traditional SEO basics – there is suppose to be only one H1 tags on every page. Like on single post page, H1 tag wraps the post title giving it maximum importance for search indexing. However, in HTML5 themes there are multiple H1 tags.
If you scan source code of single post page, there will multiple h1 tags, like for: site title, post title, author box title. This looks all wrong (but may not be) when matched with strict seo fundamentals for h1 tags in the website structure. We have multiple h1 tags because HTML5 itself allow structured h1 flow. But will this be liked by Google and other search engines – there is no clarity as of now.
