Find the size (in px) of your logo graphic.
Add this code to the end of your theme's function.php file using the sizes of your image:
`
add_theme_support( 'genesis-custom-header', array(
'width' => xxx,
'height' => xxx
) );
`Then go to Appearance/Header and upload your logo file (or choose it from the Media Lib if already there.)
devParticipantThere seems to be a "split" in the WP community over logo/headers.
One faction believes you should (always) defer to the "WordPress Way" meaning the Appearance/Header method. In Gen-land it means you have to add code specifying the exact dimensions of your logo in functions.php as noted above.
The other faction says that logo/header is/should be a "theme/framework function" and these methods are divorced from the WP.... using the logo.png method by taking out any "support for WP header" code that might be there and perhaps adding code like from the article above.
I'll be curious as to what (if anything) Gen 2.0 will have for us with respect to this issue.
devParticipantI don't know what you are are telling me... those are links to your admin area.
I don't see thepuckburger_banner.gif or tPB.gif anywhere in your Media Lib. Look in your Media Lib. Are they there? What is the link to them?
Also, I don't even know if you can use a .gif file in the header... I've always used .jpg or .png files. Maybe THAT is the problem?
But if the logo/header image shows up in the Appearance/Header screen, then it should get imported into the child theme.
Maybe you have some other plugin that is conflicting with it?
Without being able to log in to the site, there is not much anyone here can probably do for you... but then again there are a lot of people who know far more than I do.

NewMedia Website DesigndevParticipantIf you are seeing your logo in the preview pane and you are choosing it AND you have unchecked the "show text" box at the bottom, I don't understand why it does not show on each page. What is the name of the logo file? Using Chrome "inspect" utility I don't see anything in your Resources file that looks like a logo. I do see this: http://www.thepuckburger.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/background5.jpg .
What is the name of the logo file and is it in Media Library?
devParticipant`
.home #sidebar {
height: 2200px;
}
`devParticipantIf you mean Agent Press and the search box on the homepage next to slider, it is blank until you add some search terms to your taxonomies.
devParticipant`
.sidebar {
height: 2200px;
}
`Probably not the best way... but it should work.
devParticipantNo, I'm saying that by using the code, you can then use the "regular" WordPress method for adding a header/logo image... which is under Appearance, Header on the left admin menu.
I don't know for sure but I believe the above is the accepted "Genesis way" for adding a header image.
I believe there are some plugins that help with this chore, but for me, the first thing I do is find out what the dimensions of the header graphic is and plug it in the code above which I pop in my functions.php. Then I do the image upload (or select from Media Lib) via the Appearance, Header screen.
devParticipantYou don't need a plugin.
Create a new post category called "team."
Create a post for each team member assigning it the above category.
Create a blog page by following this: http://www.briangardner.com/blog-page-single-category/
devParticipant`
#inner {
background-image: url(images/truck-chrome.png);
}
`devParticipantAt the end your theme's functions.php file you can add:
`
add_theme_support( 'genesis-custom-header', array(
'width' => xxx,
'height' => yyy
) );
`... changing the width and height to your own dimensions. Then use the Appearance, Header screen to upload your image... and that's that.
devParticipantI tried changing the width of several containers via CSS but I could not get the page to shrink. It just truncated it. My only suggestion is edit the CSS making a global change to whatever the current width is now and see if that works. (Um, make a copy of the CSS file first!)
As a side note, I don't understand why SP has not taken this theme and made it responsive. It is one of their bestsellers from what I'm told.
devParticipantYou asked about a "custom post"... this is a page (0r a post but we use pages) that are designed to allow special data entry in them and they format the data according to how you code the page... an example is this page: http://newmediawebsitedesign.com/authors/book1/book/books/escape-from-burma/
Maya at Bookwrights has been doing book design for 23 years... she is in demand but she wants to port her skills over to web design because with ebooks eventually replacing print books, there will be a demand on the part of publishers to create one-book: one-site marketing (like Hollywood does.) That''s why we teamed up ... I do most of the tech work, she does the graphic work. The larger publishers don't want to give up to Amazon what the recorded music industry gave up to iTunes. They want people to go to a book site and order direct... not from Amazon for the Kindle version. I don't think that will happen... but even if they are "forced" to sell through Amazon they will still need to get eyeballs to the book sites.
I hope you got my private reply. If not contact me with your contact info via the contact form on newmediawebsitedesign.com.
devParticipantThis reply has been marked as private.devParticipantI agree that Studio Press themes are a well engineered... but so is Appfnite which we use for our own site (Optimal) and I assume other vendors... at least those in the SP Community... are well made. We've not sold any Zagapress themes yet... but my guess is that they are up to SP standards.
As for support, we don't usually need too much of it. We pay our contract staff very well and so we are able to attract people who know the technology... at least more than I do (and I know a fair amount.)
We apply the "psychology" of book covers (my partner is a world-class, award-winning book designer www.bookwrights.com) where you only have a few seconds to "capture" the attention of the bookstore customer to get her to pick up the book and look at it. We don't like to "assault" the viewer with tons of info... a nice graphic and a few well chosen words is all that is needed. We didn't invent this idea... book cover design has a century of research behind it. If you look at our competitors (authorsontheweb.com and authorbytes.com just to name a couple, they do pretty much the same thing... except they do it for $3000 and we do it for $600 !!!)

http://www.NewMediaWebsiteDesign.comdevParticipantThanks for the info. Yes, when you come down to it, I really don't want to "patch the roof" I want to replace the roof.
I'd not thought of popping a <div> in a text widget and positioning it. However, we try to keep HTML out of widgets if we can and use CSS as much as possible.
Our book homepages are VERY light on content.... by design. We've been in the book industry for many, many years (www.bookwrights.com) and we have a good formula for what a single book site should look like in order for it to sell (or at least sell the first printing!) Not everyone agrees with us, but we have a good track record with authors and publishers.
I'll take a look at eleven40. There might also be something on http://zigzagpress.com/themes/ that might work for us.
A friend said I should find an intern to do this for us... or maybe a college student. I don't think it is all that difficult.... and if I had time to learn how to create custom posts (like the one we have now) I could probably do it... but I have to run the company, do the marketing, monitor the work... and even do some of it myself. My wife (who is not involved in the biz) said I need another wife! Like I can afford that !! 🙂
May 9, 2013 at 10:20 am in reply to: Agent Press 2.0 How to place a small logo on the left side corner #40096devParticipantPut the following in functions.php (at end) and then use the Word Press theme--> header facility.
`
add_theme_support( 'genesis-custom-header', array(
'width' => 270,
'height' => 90
) );
`devParticipantIn the text widget there is a check-box to "recognize paragraphs" but I've seen that to fail as well. Worth a try.
One last thing... on your Featured Page, take a look at the text via the Text tab on the editor and see if you see anything that maybe should not be there... perhaps some inline styles, or <span> tags, etc.
Another trick that works when formatting is screwed up is to "cut" (or copy/delete) all of the text from the WP editor and put it in a text editor (Notepad, TextWrangler.... NOT a wordprocessor like Word!) and then re-copy it and re-paste it back into the text editor of WP. If there is any un-printable junk in there is will often get left behind. Then go and put in any bold, italics, headings, pictures, etc.
devParticipantNot sure where you want the price... so for off to right try:
#dsidx-listings .dsidx-price {
left: 70%;
}
For above the pix, try:
#dsidx-listings .dsidx-price {
left: 25%;
}
(Saw your site... I taught 6th grade in King George, VA in 1972)
May 7, 2013 at 7:48 am in reply to: Genesis Responsive Slider on EVERY page (executive theme) #39701devParticipantMy guess is that you made a mistake in coding or you didn't position the new widget area where you really want it.
The "premium" Soliloquy sidebar http://soliloquywp.com/ makes it very easy to add the same sidebar to each page via a short code... or have different sidebars on each (different) page(s.)
[Note: usual disclaimers apply. I have no relation with Soliloquy except as a customer.]
