The first link you included above uses the default WordPress comment form, much like the Genesis demos do. If you'd deactivate / delete the plugin you installed, your comment form will look more link the one in the second example / link. The second link looks like it uses the Jetpack plugin with its commenting function enabled.

You don't have to buy an additional child theme (unless you are not code proficient). The Genesis Sample Theme is considered a starter theme, which means it gives you the freedom to code (PHP / JS) and style (CSS) your own page templates, completely customizing them for your specific use.

To create a landing page template, you can use one of these tutorials. These include the PHP code, which you can copy and paste; you'll need to style it yourself with CSS.

If you want another Genesis theme to help familiarize yourself with the code, there a number of free ones, so you don't have to buy another child theme if you don't want to.

There are a lot great tutorials on the web on creating Genesis page templates. There are a few good paid tutorial sites that Genesis users and devs use, but there are also hundreds of free tutorials on all things Genesis - from creating sticky headers and nav menus to creating page templates. You can also join the Genesis Facebook group, the Google+ group, or ask for help on Twitter using the hashtag #GenesisWP.

As I said, the Sample theme is intended for use as a starter theme, and the assumption is, if you're using it, you know how to code those pages in PHP and write the accompanying CSS you'd need. If you aren't proficient with code yet, that's okay. 🙂 Choosing one of the other (pre-made) child themes means all of the page templates and accompanying CSS will be included with the theme files, and you can just set about making your changes.

Hi there.

The Sample theme is considered a starter theme for custom theme development, and as such, it doesn't come with the page templates as the assumption is anyone using the Sample theme would want to design / develop those templates for themselves. While in most other child themes, you'll find a widgetized home page and a landing page template, those templates are not included with the Sample theme.

If you visit each user profile page on a Genesis site and scroll to the bottom, you'll see the ability to enable (or disable) the author box on the posts and / or author archive page on a per author basis.

I'm sorry the licensing was difficult for you to understand. I would suggest a plugin called CSS Hero that allows you to make changes with to fonts and colors (and other site elements). It's about $29 for a single site for a year, $59 for 5 sites, and on special right now for $99 for up to 999 sites. It's also generally pretty easy to find a coupon code for CSS Hero. It is Genesis compatible, so you should have no trouble at all making the changes you need to make.

I didn't see the error message you are getting (I don't think you included it), but often memory-related error messages are really to limitations of your hosting account. You may want to ask your web host via tech support if they can increase the memory (if it's the message I'm thinking it is).

You can change the fonts in any Genesis theme by making the appropriate changes in the stylesheet, which you can access from the Editor screen via the Appearance menu in your WordPress dashboard.

Hi,

You can absolutely have the level of security required for a bank or credit union web site on WordPress. This is NOT theme dependent, however, and so, it has little to do with Genesis or any other theme you'd choose. It has to do with securing an SSL certificate from your web host, coding the website in the right way and using the correct plugins to protect the transactions, using the appropriate disclosure statements, hardening your WordPress install, and keeping your core, theme, and plugins updated. and other things.

Hi,

Those category links in the footer are actually the second navigation that has been placed in the footer. You'll be able to delete it by going to the place in your WordPress dashboard where you'll find the primary menu. You can just use the dropdown to deselect that menu.

Have you made your logo changes in the functions and stylesheet files?

You may have to also change the padding and make a few other adjustments. The point is, the theme is coded to accept a logo of the default size with no changes; if you change the logo size, you have to make slight changes in the code to the header area and menu.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the Bluehost dashboard, but in order for Genesis to function properly, you will need the Genesis framework and a Genesis child theme. The child theme needs to be active, and that's where you'd make any changes as changes made to the framework could be overridden during a theme update. Those should be located under THEMES in the APPEARANCE menu in WordPress.

You can definitely change the fonts on the widgets (or any other part of the site). It looks like you may be using Genesis Palette Pro on your site. If you are, I think you should be able to use that to change the fonts.

Those functions would be added by plugins and not your theme since plugins add functionality and themes add form / structures. You can use any of the StudioPress themes for a political website. Outreach Pro, which was intended for use by nonprofits, might be the most logical start.

You can likely use any of the StudioPress child themes for a tutorial site. Generally speaking, that functionality will be in plugins you add, so whether you're using LearnDash, Sensei, WPCourseware -- Genesis should integrate with all of them.

You can take a look at the themes in the theme store to see if one of them has a home page that features widget areas that you think you'd like to use. A few of the newer themes, Workstation Pro, Altitude Pro, and Atmosphere Pro, have flexible widget areas, so that's something to keep in mind.
