ParticipantOh, shoot. I'm so sorry, I using Eleven40 Pro (not Altitude Pro). Does my frustration seem reasonable now? (I feel bad for wasting your time, but I really want this solved.)
chrisjeub
ParticipantI'm talking about the front page setting to "latest posts," the basic setting from within the customized theme. I have no other option but ALL my posts. I'd prefer what Genesis Featured Posts does, or other Studiopress themes offer: let the blog page be limited. Is there a way to do this?
I specifically want only one category to show up on the front page.
chrisjeub
ParticipantDid you ever find an answer to this?
chrisjeub
ParticipantThis helped a little in understanding that I need to hard crop my image photos to 360x466 to get them to appear properly, but this still doesn't solve the force cropping. I even touched up the code you sent by removing the "true" statement to see if that worked. Still, the featured images are being cropped rather than resized.
I can't imaging why there isn't an easier solution to this?
chrisjeub
ParticipantThanks Anita, but that didn't seem to work. It added the ability to embed a special image size within a text editor, but the Featured Image is still being cropped in both the front page and within the library page, even with an image exactly the size 850x1100. Frustrating. Any other ideas?
chrisjeub
ParticipantSo, 850x1100 would be the image size. Do you know the exact code that I should type into my functions.php file?

ParticipantI have been testing this to see how the theme could resize, and I find the theme automatically cropping the photo instead to a hard-crop 360-570. Like so:

Compared to what it should be:

ParticipantBoth Front Page 2 and the Library Page automatically trim the margins, rather than resize the image. Either adjusting the trim automation or coding a special resizing would solve the problem, I suppose, but I don't know how to do that.

ParticipantThanks Victor, you helped a lot. I have a followup request:
I'd like the image to be bigger than the text font. It currently is sized to 30px, but I would like it to be more like 50px, fitting inside the 65px bar more than the title box. Is there a way to do this? I couldn't figure it out.

ParticipantMy bad, it is Eleven40. I'm sorry, I got confused. I started a new thread below, and I'll delete this one when you have a chance to respond:
Thanks Anita. I very much look forward to making this change.

ParticipantThanks Erika, but I already have a developer in the wings to help. I had hoped I could figure this out myself.

ParticipantI've got that much done already, Erika. The excerpts are entered, and they appear in blogroll pages, but differently on the front page.
Andrea, the more-tag won't work for my content. I preload metadata, and that's what is showing up on the front page.
This appears to be a tough solution, tougher than I thought it would be. I assumed I'd just add a function of some sort. Any other ideas?

ParticipantThis worked for archive pages, but not the front page of the eleven40 Pro Theme. If you scroll down to the list of 8 additional articles (underneath the main article), the excerpt is not published; instead, it is 100 characters with a "continue reading" link. I want the excerpt to publish instead.
Ideas?
chrisjeub
ParticipantPerfect. Thanks Erika!

ParticipantPerfect! Thank you so much.
chrisjeub
ParticipantThanks Victor. You're helping me understand this a little better. I'm using a plugin called Shortcoder, a handy plugin that I've been using for a while to help templatize my posts a bit more. They have an include called Metadata that has the post_excerpt() function. Their include has the line:
'post_excerpt' => '',
I put this into my shortcode as
$$post_excerpt$$
And it renders the excerpt...but only 100 characters. I tried the function that you listed, but it didn't affect the length of the excerpt.
I am suspecting that I'm not doing this right, utilizing the Shortcode plugin to display the excerpt where I want it. Do you have a different suggestion, or another solution to offer to lift (or increase) the limit of the excerpt?chrisjeub
ParticipantPerfect! It works. Thanks Sridhar.
chrisjeub
ParticipantWell, I figured out a work-around. For some reason, pictures larger than the container (300px) will shrink in height. The larger the picture, the more the shrinkage. Strange.
chrisjeub
ParticipantThanks! I plugged them all in. They don't look good, in my opinion.
chrisjeub
ParticipantIt looks like you got it fixed. How did you fix it? I am having the same problem.
