Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberBrad, the Studio Press page never included any snippets that worked with manual excerpts, and the tutorial at Studiograsshopper was one of the few resources to highlight the distinction between automatic and manual excerpts early on, and to write snippets that would work for either method.
Plus, there's no confusion about "will that only work with Genesis themes" for newcomers.
I love Studio Press resources as much as anyone else here, but sometimes there's a tunnel vision towards solutions that rivals the old Steve jobs Reality Distortion field 🙂

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberThere is a tutorial at Studiograsshopper that's come in handy for me when tweaking the excerpt (I prefer to use the manual excerpts, and have on occasion needed to add a "Read More")

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberI would guess that you'd enter the javascript and CSS bits into the "Header scripts" field in Genesis > Theme Settings, just like you'd add the Google Analytics code.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberNot sure if this is relevant, but wasn't there something about that target attribute being deprecated in HTML 4.01, but brought back for HTML 5?
That said, this appears to be a WordPress thing. I just tried adding the target="_blank" to a link in the User Bio field on 2 Genesis sites and on 2 non-Genesis sites, and it did the same thing on all of them, stripped out the target attribute.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberIs it good to have a single plugin handle all of that? It seems to me that if an update broke the plugin, it would cripple your communication with all your social sites at the same time.
I use WP to Twitter to automatically post items to Twitter, and what I like most is that you can set up a template for default Tweets, or craft a custom Tweet for a post, the same way you'd create a manual excerpt. Very handy and very flexible.
WPMU has a plugin for Facebook, and a separate plugin for Google+, but I'm not familiar with anything like that for Instagram or Pinterest.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberIt's still the same in Genesis, here's an example I set up for two different videos categories using Backcountry. I recently improved the display by adding a plugin called Featured Video Plus

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberThe way I got something similar to work was to have 2 instances of Genesis Featured Posts Amplified, using the offset.
So in the sidebar that Brad's code created, you'd have something like this:
Genesis Featured Posts Amplified widget (showing only 3 posts)
Text Widget (containing the code for your ad)
Genesis Featured Posts Amplified widget (same config as first GFWA, but offset by 3 posts)

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberFigured it out. Instead of trying to add the functionality I wanted to the Co-Authors Plus plugin, I switched gears and added the functionality to the Genesis Co-Authors Plus plugin instead by limiting what users to display the author box on.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberOkay, I may have fibbed. I just took a look at what Elegant Themes has for the first time in months, maybe since last fall, and I noticed TheStyle and TheSource... both magazine type layout styles I've been looking for after starting to fall in love with The Nerdist's grid layout.
Now I'm gonna have to play with them, and I'm blaming all of you for enabling my addiction to WordPress themes 🙂

I'm a little rusty on rewrite rules, but I might be able to figure one out.
Is this supposed to redirect a specific page called /index.html to your main URL? If that rule is redirecting all of your other .html files to WordPress permalinks of the same name, I'd use a separate rule for that one page.
I would use this: Redirect permanent /index.html http://www.healing-fibroids.com
iirc, I think it would go above the other RedirectMatch, to be matched first, before the other rule. If that's not what you're trying to do, then forget I said anything 🙂

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberPlugins like Role Editor and Members only work for actual user accounts.... been using Members almost ever since the day it came out and I love it.
But since Co-Authors allows you to have user bylines without actually giving them user accounts (something I'd been wishing that WordPress would add in itself for several years before I found a plugin that came closest to what I wanted), there are no roles or capabilities to modify or enable for them.
Thus my current conundrum.

That didn't concern me back when updating sites to WP 3.4, but now that we're closing in on a lot of changes with 3.6, I have to wonder a little bit...

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkJune 28, 2013 at 12:08 pm in reply to: How to start excerpts at Paragraph #3 instead of Word #1 #48241SummerMemberManually specified excerpts sounds like the best bet for you. I've been using that for years on many of my sites... never understood why so many people seem to hate or avoid them... they are perfect for creating teasers that aren't just a rehash of part of your article.
As for the MP3 player, what are you using for that? I know that the two big podcasting plugins, Powerpress and podPress, both have options to display the player in excerpts, which I have set up on several sites, using Metro, Associate and News.
But if you don't have your feeds set up as a podcast, those plugins might be overkill for what you need.
If your player plugin is using shortcodes to embed the player, I think there are ways to make the excerpt use HTML and shortcodes. I've used Advanced Exceprt in the past, but that plugin hasn't been updated since 2011.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberThe permalink of the page you select to be your static front page becomes "invisible" for lack of a better way to describe it. The name of that page doesn't become part of the URL if it's selected to be the home page.
What happens when you remove the redirect for /index from the .htaccess? It sounds like that was mistakenly put in there to me.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSummerMemberMy current Community Marketplace favorites are Epik and Megalithe, both of which I'd eagerly purchased and used. I'd also bought Ally directly from Appfinite when it first came out, and recommended Adapt for client (warning: Wes' work can be mesmerizing if you stare at it too long). And playing with Megalithe led me to buy Recreate and Prestige directly from ZigZag.
And while they don't have any themes in the Community Marketplace here, I've put together 4-5 sites with Genesis child themes from Themedy (Foxy News, Derby and Grind).
For me, Megalithe, Ally, and now Epik were just stunning. I felt compelled to play with them 🙂 and Foxy News was just fun, to configure and to customize.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkJune 23, 2013 at 4:02 pm in reply to: How To Make Landing Pages Like Studiopress & Copyblogger?? #47363SummerMemberWhat I'd said was that there are more than a few existing Genesis child themes that come with a landing page template, usually named page_landing.php, and you could use that as a roadmap.
And there is a tutorial from last year on Brian Gardner's blog, and since the forum here is being mean to me and not letting me post URLs, you can find it by searching on "Brian Gardner landing page tutorial" -- Google has it as the first result 🙂
From your outline, it sounds like you are looking for something a little more like the home page for the Epik child theme, something with widgets as defined row areas? I'm a big fan of widgetized pages these days, but it's not hard to add those spaces yourself.
