anotherusernameParticipant
Why would you hire a developer who needs to ask YOU technical support questions?
anotherusernameParticipantWell, if you want EASY, you could try this:
put this in your css file:
h1.entry-title { display:none;}
I am not sure though what google thinks about having your h1 tag either removed or hidden via display:none;
Search engines place significant value on the h1 tag when ranking pages, so removing it or hiding it might negatively affect your rankings in google and other search engines.
A much better way would be to reposition the title using hooks.
for that, you should read up on how genesis uses unhook to remove actions:
http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/entry-header#remove-entry-title
I should warn you that there is a misconception that Genesis is popular because it is easy. In reality, Genesis is popular because it is extensible. Be prepared to start learning PHP and CSS.
anotherusernameParticipantI don't know Parallax in particular, but usually isn't it under Appearance -> Editor -> ???
Usually that will list all the styles.css for ALL the themes that you have installed.
If not, then I would first try to find where it is by looking in your source code and then maybe trying to ftp into it.
Hope this helps.
anotherusernameParticipantIt will be easier for everyone if you upload the site somewhere.
December 18, 2014 at 1:17 pm in reply to: Different Header in Cafe Pro Theme Pages Other Than Home Page #134824anotherusernameParticipantbut this did not do what I was expecting.
Could you elaborate more on what you WERE expecting?
I just took a quick look, and it seems like instead of trying to change things via CSS, you should try and figure out from the back end what is causing the output of the header on the other pages.
You will probably need to either unhook it, or use conditionals if you are using a widget to display the various front-page
for example: the background image (which I think you want to REMOVE, right?) is being called by inline CSS, not from your style sheet.
So probably try to figure out what in the wordpress code is causing the issue and fix it from the backend first before trying to tackle it with the front end css.
Hope this helps.
anotherusernameParticipantYou're welcome.
anotherusernameParticipantGenesis is great... if you are a developer.
But I wouldn't recommend it to most bloggers unless you have a good working knowledge of wordpress hooks and filters (which means you should know basic to intermediate PHP), as well as being competent in CSS.
Unfortunately, genesis has the reputation of being EASY to use. Well, it is easy, if all you want to do is use the default themes and functionality.
Really, genesis shines at the flexibility that is "under the hood," but just like auto mechanics, you need to know how the engine works if you want to modify it.
There are EASIER themes / frameworks to use, but I think Genesis is BETTER than those. But you just have to know what you are doing.
anotherusernameParticipantTo me, it sounds like the best thing would be a way to download the info and then put it into a proper Customer relationship management (CRM) application.
In MemberPress can we add additional details in the back end where the client can manually add more information, that the member doesn’t see or isn’t part of the form?will the customer need to see it eventually? Do you plan on communicating with the customer THROUGH the wordpress site?
Again, if you are going to be added more information ABOUT the customer by the client, I think that it would be best to use something dedicated to customer management (other than wordpress).
but hey, maybe there IS something out there that will handle this well.
anotherusernameParticipantOff the top of my head, no...
although i would imagine that you would have to look at the code for that widget and see if it includes a filter hook, and if so, write a function to filter it.
anotherusernameParticipantTry putting this in your wordpress child functions.php theme:
<?php
function remove_private_prefix($title) {
$title = str_replace( 'Private:', '', $title);
return $title;
}
add_filter('the_title','remove_private_prefix');And see if that works.
anotherusernameParticipantIt looks like your rules in:
.widget-wrap img {
are conflicting with your rules in:
img.centered, .aligncenter {
Since your .widget-wrap img { occurs later in your css file it is overriding the settings in your img.centered, .aligncenter {
If you were to comment out the rules in .widget-wrap img { like so:
.widget-wrap img {
/* display: block; */
/* float: left; */
/* margin-right: 8px; */
}You will notice that the image is now in the center and the text appears below it (with lots of break tags added for no reason except to give aspiring geeks like me nightmares).
anotherusernameParticipantWhile the patron theme looks nice, I wonder if there aren't any Genesis themes that are pretty much woo commerce ready (once you activate the woo plugin).?
while it looks nice, I noticed the patron theme has a yearly license, which I personally try to avoid (sorry, but the genesis lifetime license has spoiled me).
anotherusernameParticipantAgree with Lauren:
it is a graphic. you can see it "naked" by clicking this link:
http://blog.leadpages.net/wp-content/themes/genesis/images/blog_marketplace_banner.png
When you say:
I want something like that to go under my video.
What exactly do you mean? Do you have a link to your page with the video on it?
And when you say beneath, are you being LOWER in the document flow? Or do you mean "behind" the video (using CSS positioning)?
December 14, 2014 at 3:24 pm in reply to: How to create 'News' overview page in Executive Pro #134527anotherusernameParticipantJust thinking out loud here...
wondering if he could "hide" the excerpt and other things using CSS???
anotherusernameParticipantHmmm...
There is kind of a lot going on.
On a basic level, you could try giving a negative margin-top to the .site-header .site-title { rules, maybe something like margin-top: -5rem;
to be honest, you are probably going to need more help with this than what most people would be willing to provide on a forum. Who knows, maybe someone is familiar with the code you used and can chip in (fingers crossed), but my first geuss is that there was probably some CSS code that was supposed to go along with this and you are missing it.
Hope this helps.
anotherusernameParticipantDoes the navigation menu need to be dynamic?
If they will be static links, then you could just put a text widget in your left hand sidebar (assuming you have one) and just put in an html navbar with the appropriate divs.
It would only start to get complex if it was needing to be dynamic (like you needed links with session IDs and such). But even then, it wouldn't be rocket surgery...
December 12, 2014 at 7:07 pm in reply to: Horizontal menu link break, last item on top instead bottom #134428anotherusernameParticipantNormally, no. Normally, the last object - if it is too big to fit in the div - will wrap UNDERNEATH it, NOT on top of it.
What you will most likely have to do is to register a new menu. then include JUST the Inloggen, and place that menu above the other menu.
anotherusernameParticipantCan a slider go into the hero image space?
Well, I am pretty sure you can put a slider ANYWHERE, as long as your register a sidebar wherever you want it to appear.
Can a sidebar secondary menu appear only after the hero image rolls up?
I am pretty sure you can do that to, but you are going to (most likely) hack the home page template.
and put a separate gallery into each post, make sure each post has a featured image and category,
Maybe you are thinking of having a "portfolio" custom post type instead of a gallery on a post???
You could probably do either way.
I would suggest one thing, though, and that is if yo are going to have a large number of images appearing on the home page the way that the 1100architecht.com site does, it might be a good idea to use lazy load to only have them load as the viewer scrolls down the page.
Otherwise, it will take a long time for the hero image / slider and the page to load.
I was viewing it on a DSL connection (I know, DSL is not super fast) and that site took a LOOOONNNGGGG time to load. I thought it was broken it took so long.
Hope this helps.
December 12, 2014 at 9:37 am in reply to: 'More from category' link in featured posts widget #134379anotherusernameParticipantI am not 100% this is what you want, but I think you could try adding this rule to your CSS:
a.more-link {display:block;}
Also, and this is totally my opinion, but I don't really think it is very useful to use the built in excerpts / read more that is a truncated version of the main content area from a post / page.
I think that you should be using custom excerpts that are purposely written to appear on your home page or on your archive pages.
By the way: Which theme are you using? Are you using the one-page from Sridhar?
anotherusernameParticipantSince it doesn’t work as what I wanted, I have reverted back.
Good.
If you are going to nofollow your home page, you need to be either a genius... or an idiot.
99% of the time, nofollowing a site's home page is a VERY BAD IDEA!!!
