hello

I am setting up a service website with hundreds of providers offering many different products and services, it is going to be a portal to alot of information and resources for customer/user to look and find products and services they need for themselves, family or friends,

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the following

Theme to use
Recommended plugins
Any other ideas suggestions

As there will be alot of information and resources i was looking at a news or magazine theme to utilise space above the fold well then having database type plugin etc for all the searchable products/resources, Nothing is going to be sold from this site its information only, we will be selling ad space though

I would say see what's available from the StudioPress themes website and see what fits your needs. As for other ideas only you the designer would know what's needed and how you what the website to look.
