    Hi,

I have a website which is currently live using the Metro Pro Theme and built on WordPress but it needs updating but I dont want the changes go live until the whole website is ready. Is there anyway to do the changes offline without affecting my live website until it's ready to go live?

    Thanks!

You can install a new instance of WordPress and clone your production site into the new instance to create a development area. Work in the development area and migrate your code back to production when you're done.

This helps me too. Where I need more help is instructions for cloning production site, working in the cloned development area, and migrating back to production when done. Can you provide more guidance to a digital migrant please?

You would google for local WordPress development. I use Local by FlyWheel (for Flywheel hosted sites but you can -- if you know what you're doing -- use it for other hosting situations). and/or Desktop Server. I suggest taking a course on WordPress development, learning FTP, getting a good code editor:

This link is for their LAMP server (a typical setup), it assumes you have cPanel, and subdomains on your hosting account, and other knowledge (probably PhpMyAdmin):

Thanks for responding and providing all that info! No easy fix obviously and since I don't know what I'm doing, I'll have to leave as is. ?
