Pew Research Center states 64% of American adults own a smartphone (As of October 2014 - Mobile Technology Fact Sheet) and 63% of adult cell owners use their phones to go online (As of May 2013).

Obviously these numbers are growing, but other sources estimate these stats to exceed the 70-80% ownership/internet-usage by 2017.

With all the marketing metrics used these days (as stupid as I believe some of these to be - see: Stupid Performance Metrics), I believe one of the most effect strategies is (or soon will be) Click-to-Call buttons & links. A client in the HVAC industry, believes the survival of his entire business could soon depend on Click-to-Call. One of the most important KPI metrics, to this client, is the number of people he talks to, resulting from the use of a Click-to-Call button or link.

With so much riding on the ability to Click-to-Call, I set out to create a "Click-to-Call" link in the WordPress Tagline. While the first attempt wasn't as viable as initially thought, the second attempt was spot on. Check out the resulting "WordPress Tagline Click-to-Call" code snippet HERE.
