What is the best, most correct way (not necessarily the easiest way-unless the easy way can be correct 😉  ) to have widgets show up only on certain pages?

    Not sure what you mean.

For pages with no sidebar just select that layout in the page edit screen.

For pages that may or may not include a specfic widget in the sidebar, use widget logic - http://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-logic/

For custom sidebars for different pages/sections/topics use Genesis Simple Sidebars - http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/simple-sidebars

Thank you, I meant like for a widgetized area that I made, how can I have that widget only show up on certain pages; and I think you are saying use Widget Logic correct?  Widget Logic works well then?

I thought maybe there was a way to edit one of the php files in some way causing the widget to only show on certain pages.  I do understand that if you make a custom template, like a landing page then only those widgets would show up on that landing page.

Yes Widget Logic works very well and it is easy, too.
