MemberHello Any and All. Any and all help appreciated.
I have WP 4.0 installed with Genesis and News Pro Theme. The text editor works. The visual editor is non-functional. I can't even enter text into the text box when I click to activate the visual editor.
I've searched the WP forums and Google. I've crapped out. I deactivated all plugins (I don't use many) and reloaded the editor. No change.
I checked my "User Settings" and confirmed that the checkbox for the "Disable Visual Editor" is unchecked. Just for the heck of it I checked the box, did a reload, unchecked the box, reloaded - no change.
There are more than a few reports of this issue but I've yet to find a fix.
<whining noise>Waaaaa</whining noise>
Thanks for any help.

MemberTry disabling all your plugins and see if that fixes the issue. If it does, activate them one at a time and see which one is causing the issue. If that doesn't work, you can try updating your WordPress files manually by uploading them via FTP, just make sure you don't upload the wp-content file over your existing one or you will overwrite all your themes, plugins and uploads.

MemberHi cwalsh. Thanks for the suggestions.
I deactivated all plugins (I don’t use many) and reloaded the editor. No change.
I'm hoping for a more granular solution than uploading all WP files - though I'll go that route if need be.
FWIW, I just upgraded to WordPress 4.0 on a Thesis 1.85 framework site - a framework I'm doing my best to part ways with - but on that site the Visual Editor is working fine. My conclusion, therefore, is that this isn't a server issue. I may be wrong but I suspect the issue resides in the Genesis framework. Wiser minds will disabuse me of this quickly . . or advise of an easy fix . . I hope.

ParticipantHi Jeff,
Some additional items to work through:
Is this a new WP install? What version? What version of PHP?
What changes have been made to the install? (wp-config, etc.)
What browser and operating system are you using? versions?
Disable all browser extensions.
Have you tested using other browsers/OS?
Have you reinstalled News Pro? Genesis? (latest versions of each)
Choose your next site design from over 350 Genesis themes.

MemberFor the moment "the fix is in" as follows:
I customarily use Firefox. I loaded Internet Explorer and Chrome to rule out browser related issues. Got the same result in all browers.
I downloaded the 2014 theme. I maintained a copy of the 2012 theme in the existing install "as a back-up". I alternated between News Pro -> 2014 -> 2012 and got the SAME result. Ergo my problem was beginning to look unrelated . . cough . . cough . . to Genesis. Mea culpa! Mea culpa! Forgive me for thinking there could be ANYTHING less than perfect with Genesis and the News Pro theme. (P.S. Is the News Pro theme going to be updated or put out ot pasture?)
FWIW, BEFORE doing all the above I ran through all the reported / proposed solutions, set forth here, to no avail: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-white-text-and-missing-buttons-in-wordpress-visual-editor/
As a last resort I deleted the tinymce folder from wp-includes/js/tinymce, downloaded a fresh copy of WP 4.0, extracted all folders and uploaded a fresh copy of ONLY the tinymce folder, refreshed the "New Post" page and . . Voila! The visual editor is now working.
Amen. So may it continue to work.
