    Hello,

This is a doltish question for someone who has a good amount of WordPress knowledge: should I create a child theme of a child theme? For example, I have Digital Pro, but am making modifications to that theme directly. Should I instead create a child theme for this in order to make customisations, or is that not necessary here?

    Thanks!

    Not necessary.

Make your updates directly to your child theme. Child themes are never automatically updated, so you don't have to worry about an accidental update wiping out your changes.

Good to know thanks. However, that brings up another two questions:

    1. How will I know when a child theme is updated?
    2. What happens to my changes once the theme is updated?

    Thanks,

    You don't.

You do not upgrade child themes as that removes your customizations.

Genesis is upgraded with security fixes.

Any time you see us updating child themes it is very minor things that are not expected to be ported back to customized sites. 99% pf the time it is minor css reformatting or fixes for edge cases.

Do not upgrade child themes and do not expect to do so.
