I have a site using Magazine Pro 3.2.3 (pre-Guttenberg version). I see that Studiopress has released an upgrade of the theme today which has many updates for Guttenberg and I think it is time to change. Is there any way to efficiently migrate to this "upgrade" or is it, in essence, installing a new theme that just happens to have the same name.

The latest Magazine Pro does not use widgets like your current version. The home page is built completely in blocks. So technically speaking it's really a new theme. The install would more than likely fail as it creates the same folder name.

I'm in the same boat. I would be going from 3.3 to 3.6. I sent a support request to StudioPress asking about this new version. The readme file says it supports widgets but I'll wait until I hear from them before I try upgrading.

@beggers it supports the widgets shown in the new demo of Magazine Pro. It doesn't support the old home page widget system.

    Hi,

Deciding on a new theme (Magazine pro vs Daily Dish) this is my first time setting up a webpage.
I hear Magazine Pro has recently been updated. Using blocks instead of widgets. Don't really know the difference? is one easier to use than the other for a beginner?

Anita- Daily Dish I've read from your other post might be easier to use but has not been updated in a long time an does not use Guttenberg. Could this present a problem if switching to a different them in the future?

If you were starting out please let me know what way you would lean with these two themes. Thank you!

I just switched my theme over to Magazine Pro. Was using an older theme that had not been updated in years and was using the widget homepage method. You can still use widgets on your homepage (I do it with a plugin) but honestly, I like the blocks a lot better. There were some glitches, but easily fixable.
