I'd like to create a homepage on which the featured posts take the full width of the content area, but the teasers take up two-thirds of the area below -- leaving the final third for a sidebar with Facebook Like Box, etc. (For a rough example see gamespot.com -- my concept wouldn't have a rotator/slider, but just be pulling feature posts from a grid).

Notice how GameSpot has the features take the full width of their content area, while the news takes up two-thirds of the area below. That's the effect I'd like to produce, but the teasers area below would use a two-column grid. I can achieve this effect using the Featured Widget Amplified for a features area and a grid for the area below, but I'd prefer to do it without using a plugin. Plus, I've seen some compatibility issues between Featured Widget Amplified and the Grid Loop (per Bill Erickson, the FWA plugin has crusty code).

Is what I'm trying to achieve actually doable using Grid Loop functions? If so, how? I don't think you can "stack" one grid on top of another, but for all intents and purposes, that sure seems like what I'm trying to do. Any advice would be great.
