    I was able to use the great advice on this post below to get my background to be transparent:

    Backcountry – transparency issue

    However, I just noticed a couple things (the site is here: http://tinyurl.com/paalutj ).

    1) This transparency seems to work fine on FireFox 24.0 but it does not seem to work on IE 8.0

    Is there a patch or CSS change I can make for this?

    2) I have a black search image on the page that seems to "overlap" outside the transparent area. Weird.

    How can I fix this?

    Check out Remkus de Vries reply in that original thread. That filter: alpha(opacity=50); he posted should fix the transparency in IE8. Just adjust the 50 to whatever transparency you need.
