Title Overlay on Featured Images, overlay not clickable?

I've been experimenting with overlaying the title on top of the featured images, and have come up with some good results.

The image is clickable, and the text of the title is clickable. (Mostly by using a negative margin.) However the overlay (the background color area of the title) is not clickable. Am I missing something? Is there a way to make this area link to the same area as the title?

I was even able to get the overlay to change on hover (cool!), however if it is not clickable that seems like a bad practice, and I'll need to turn it off.

I'm using the Featured Widget Amplified, and here is my CSS if interested:

The issue is still there...

For example on the Getting Started image, the image is clickable, and the actual text "Getting Started" is clickable, but the overlay (the background color area of the title) is not clickable. I wish there was a way to make this clickable.
