I need a little advice regarding the correct image sizes for the theme, and what are the correct settings in the WordPress media settings.
A little background: I migrated from Blogger to WordPress (many years ago), since I started using Genesis I have used Eleven 40, and for the last few years the Metro Pro theme.
About 2 years ago I read an article about how WordPress stores numerous sizes of the same image, and that it's a good idea to adjust the media settings to "0"
So I set as follows: Thumbnails 0x0, Medium 300x0, Large 0x0. And, I only uploaded images 700 pixels wide, the size of my blog post content area.
I recently installed a schema plugin, and discovered that in order to get the correct schema attribute - images need to be 1,200 pixels wide.
To accommodate the large images I considered moving to a theme that places large featured images in the header, such as Essence Pro.
But of course, none of my images would be large enough.
After reading more about images for WordPress it seems like changing the media settings to "0" might not be such a good idea, and that uploading images the same size as the content are also is not a good idea.
So I'm wondering what is the best thing to do from here on. Is there a recommended size to upload, to future proof your images in case you want to change the theme?
So far as I can tell, the Metro Pro theme resizes images to 150x150, 332x190, 700x400, as per the snippet from the theme functions PHP (see below). So is it necessary to set sizes in the WordPress media settings?
// Add image sizes.
add_image_size( 'home-bottom', 150, 150, TRUE );
add_image_size( 'home-middle', 332, 190, TRUE );
add_image_size( 'home-top', 700, 400, TRUE );Lastly, according to the css below, am I correct to assume the correct size for images in content is 700 pixels wide?
.content {
float: right;
width: 700px;
}.content-sidebar .content,
.content-sidebar-sidebar .content,
.sidebar-content-sidebar .content {
float: left;
}.content-sidebar-sidebar .content,
.sidebar-content-sidebar .content,
.sidebar-sidebar-content .content {
width: 500px;
}.full-width-content .content {
width: 100%;I tried to search for the correct size in the full-width layout, without success. Using the Chrome inspector it read 700 pixels, but surely this can't be right. Is there an easy way to the dimensions of the full-width layout?
I hope that makes some sort of sense, and thanks for any pointers.
