Switching theme – Any advice for a smooth transition?

I am switching from the non-responsive Corporate theme to the Executive Theme this week. I have extensively edited the Corporate theme, so I will have to re-style the Executive Theme accordingly. I want the site to look the same.

Any advice from design pros to help this transition go smoothly is appreciated. I must admit that I am a little scared. I can't afford to have the site off-line very long, and I want to minimize the amount of time to switch themes. I will back-up my stylesheet and functions file just in case. Does anyone have any other advice to offer?

Brad,

I used DesktopServer software to create the site off-line to begin with. After importing the live site, installing the new theme and customizing it in DesktopServer, will I be able to simply install the new theme in the live site and upload the style sheet and function file, or will I have to upload the entire site, database and all?

I would only modify the child theme files and then upload the child theme to your live server.

You could build the entire site locally with content and then migrate the entire installation to a live server also. Your choice.

Also, if you need help with CSS, it's better to build the site on a live test site otherwise it's hard to help with CSS when no access given.
