    Hi all,

I am thinking about switching from Centric to Aspire, mainly because I need that big red box on the homepage to feature something from the get go.

Does anyone have experience with it, and know if I will be missing out on some great Centric features that Aspire does not have?

Do they work the same in the back end, with widgets per homepage 'block'?

Any advice is very welcome! 🙂

The "back end" for all Studio Press themes is the Genesis Framework. In that regard, they all work the same. You will find differences among child themes however as developers have complete autonomy when they construct their themes. The biggest difference you will probably find is a difference in home page widget areas. You may have widgets installed in the Centric home page that may not appear in the Aspire home page, so content that you may have expected to see just might disappear.

The beauty of the Genesis Framework is that it is very easy to modify themes if you know how to code a little in PHP. If you like the big red box on the Aspire theme, why not create a new widget area in the Centric theme and copy the code from Aspire to Centric. This way you won't lose any of the features you love in the Centric theme. If you want to take this approach, then this article that I originally wrote for the News Pro theme will get you started in the right direction: http://victorfont.com/add-widget-areas-to-news-pro-theme/. The instructions can be applied to any Studio Press theme.
