    @import url(//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lato:300,700);

    I contacted my Web host to find out why my site is loading so slowly since I just set it up. It turns out it's because of a font referenced on the Google server above. This was taking 31 seconds to load according to the pingdom report below.

    Is there another way to use similar fonts without the query to Google's server? Thanks.

    Use the enqueue script method instead of import and test again.

    Here is why you should avoid using import : http://gtmetrix.com/avoid-css-import.html

    Thanks for this information!

    Will StudioPress update all the themes with this new method? I just downloaded the theme and added a few plugins last week. So, from my perspective, this theme, or any theme using Google fonts this way is broken out of the box. Why should I have to "fix" each theme before I even start using it? This site has zero traffic and is only a test site so, there is really no reason it should be this slow on the front end AND the back end. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!
