Im running a few Genesis child themes made from Minimum Pro theme. I'm not sure I understand ...in the Screen Options at the top of every page and post, can someone explain the difference between the check box for Discussion Vs the check box for Comments.

I want to allow comments and I only have the Comments checkbox checked, is this wrong?

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Hi,

generally speaking, you have to enable comments in Settings - Discussion and Genesis - Theme Settings - Comments & Trackbacks but you still can enable/disable comments for specific posts or pages.

The Screen Options on single posts and page edits screens allow you to display additional setting boxes.

Discussion: Enable or disable comments or trackbacks for that specific page/post

Comments: Shows all comments for that post/page (with options to edit, mark as spam...) and provides a button to add a new comment.

What you are doing is not wrong but does not really affect what you want to happen.
