Problems: Text Color in Site Footer and Gray Background Color in Site Container

I'm using the Dashicon feature in the site footer. I changed the site footer background color to #000 (black). However, when I did that the text color, #fff (white), in the site footer became obscured. I've inspected the element and the Appearance Editor to verify the hex color, but it appears that I've missed something.

    Also...

I'm happy with the white background of the site-inner but I'd like to change the "grayish" background color in the site-container (the color that appears by the scroll bar), to #000 (black). I just couldn't figure out how to do that using CSS.

I guess these "problems" just need another pair of eyes to discover what I've missed. Would someone please check it out and advise?

    Thanks

    Lizzie

Bingo - It worked! Thank you soooo much!

(Now, if I can just get that "issue" resolved with the text color in the site footer...)

Thanks again and appreciate the prompt response.
