Reversing Upgrade

Hi,

 

I've upgraded to Genesis  1.9.1 and it's caused a lot of issues with stylesheets loading late.

All I really want to do is downgrade to 1.8.2 until it's fixed.

Any idea where I can download the 1.8.2 Genesis files?  I don't have the original?

You should open a support ticket for the old download -- and maybe also for these other issues!

As for your style issues:
Could you please give an URL for your site?
Before Genesis 1.9 the loading of stylesheets was not done via the official, standard WordPress way! This was corrected with v1.9.x - finally!

Does your child theme folder have spaces in it?
Do you load custom stylesheets - maybe you should adjust the loading priority.

What child theme are you using?

Thanks David - I do have a support ticket open and I'm hopefull they will be able to supply me with a download link for 1.8.2

The css files are now loading in the footer (just since the upgrade).  I'm happy to deal with it later but for now, I just need to revert back.

FYI - I moved the 1.8.2 Genesis over from a backup and that fixed the issue.

The problem, which was submitted via ticket, was that after the upgrade to 1.9.1 my themes CSS file was loading in the footer.

It's the corporate theme.

I totally appreciate how complicated this all is so am happy I got it resolved and will wait for an update before upgrading next time.

The CSS loading in the footer is likely due to another plugin. Each time I have seen this happen it is because of a plugin that moves JS to the footer, but it gets a bit ambitious about moving css as well.

It was definitely the upgrade to 1.9.1 that broke it.  I downgraded to 1.8.2 and that resolved it.

It wasn't any plugins (which were, and remain working fine with 1.8.2).  I'll wait for a further update to Genesis before trying again.

The change in 1.9.1 that results in this is to properly enqueue the style sheet with the wp_enqueue_style() function. This function is being changed by one of your plugins which is resulting in the style sheet being loaded in the footer. We are not going to do it wrong to make the theme compatible with plugins that are doing it wrong.

I am almost 100% certain that this is why your style sheet loaded in the footer. I've seen this several times and every single time it was a plugin. Most of the time is it this plugin

Is there a way to tell in advance whether updating to 1.9 is going to break things?  I also use the Corporate theme and Genesis 1.8.2.  Although my new years resolution is to finally complete my long unfinished site, I'm currently nervous about updating to 1.9.x, because if it breaks what-little-is-done on my current site -- even in a simply way -- I'll likely have no clue as to how to how to fix it or get the menus back, or whatever may happen.  Thank you!  My site is http://californiacollectiondefense.com

The most common issue is having a space in your folder name. Your site does not have that so you won't have that problem. The other most common issue is a plugin that breaks things, so if you have a problem just disable plugins. If you have any issues other than this let us know in help desk via the "get help" menu item in the my.studiopress.com portal and we will help with that.
