I'm a professional web developer, but haven't used WordPress much. I'm running WordPress 4.4.1 with Parallax Pro. I want to customise the existing <h1> to include raw HTML, not just text (I want to style part of the site name). I also want to include a site logo next to the <h1>.

What's the best way to make this customisation?

I can't create a child theme off Parallax Pro, because WordPress doesn't allow grandchild themes.

I don't want to edit functions.php directly, because (I assume) it will break upgrades.

How does Parallax Pro enable customisations like this?

Note also that I don't want to replace the whole <h1> content with an image. I want some text in there, because usability and SEO.

Only the Genesis framework gets regular updates. You can edit a child theme's functions.php and style.css without risking upgrade breaks. Studio Press child themes are not updated.
