I'm using my custom theme (built from the Genesis Sample Theme), and whenever I upload images, only the full size images are showing. When I try to add media to a post, I can only select full size, none of the other sizes exist. Furthermore, on my sever, only the full sizes exist as well.

How can I get my site to upload thumb, medium, large, and full sizes?

I found a solution - I have a VPS through Digital Ocean, and WordPress needs the following to generate the other image sizes:

    apt-get install php5-gd

I find it odd that this isn't auto-detected / mentioned on the dashboard somewhere, as I had ZERO idea this was a thing.

    Hi, Fellow Burlington fan. ๐Ÿ˜‰
That's very weird. You have the latest WP. I can't imagine why it's not working, unless you're moving files up there via FTP, that would definitely eliminate the size variety - it will sidestep the automatic 3 file sizes you'll get by uploading through the media interface.

If your Media Settings are fine with 3 image sizes, I've got one last idea. Run phpinfo() on your server, and see if GD is enabled. If it isn't, all kinds of WP image processing won't work, and ask your host to turn it on. That said, I never run into hosts that don't have GD enabled nowadays.

    Good luck,
    Dave

You must have posted as I edited my post - it was indeed GD, but I had no idea it existed, and I have my own VPS ๐Ÿ™‚
