Hello. A bit of background - I have been asked by a very small business to help them with their website which was built by another designer. They provide healing for terminally ill people and have a very low budget. Their site was built with the Mai Lifestyle Theme. The previous designer wanted to charge them an extortionate amount for maintaining the site which was unaffordable. So the site has been neglected and the theme (and plugins) need updating. I am unfamiliar with Genesis framework and I need to figure out how to help this client as cheapily as possible. The theme seems to be discontinued so is there any way I can find it if there is a very similar replacement theme? I assume the previous designer bought a licence for the project. Can this licence be transferred to my client? Any advice or suggestions would be welcome. I can't update the plugins or the core WP files with an out of date theme. And I don't want to redesign the site with a non-genesis theme due to cost.

https://help.bizbudding.com/Unfortunely, at the moment their site seems to be offline but shall be back online soon.
Where are your problems with updating?
Mai theme and Genesis framework should work with WP 6.n too...
Ciao,

My concern was that the theme hasn't been updated since 2019 so I was worried that it may not work with WP 6.0. I couldn't find a changelog for it. Am I right in assuming that when the time comes to update Mai theme and Genesis, my client will have access to the updates automatically via her back office?

I understand your situation completely. It's great that you're willing to help this small business with their website, especially considering their mission. Here's some advice to navigate the Mai Lifestyle theme and keep costs low:
Theme Updates and Alternatives:
- Check the Version: While Mai Lifestyle is discontinued, it's possible the previous designer had an active license that included updates. See if there's a license key or purchase information in the theme files or the client's records. If a valid license exists, you might be able to update the theme within WordPress.
Similar Replacements: If updates aren't available, look for similar free Genesis child themes. StudioPress offers free themes like "OceanWP" or "GeneratePress" that are lightweight and well-supported by the Genesis community. These can provide a solid foundation and won't require a complete redesign.
Consider a Paid Option: If a free alternative doesn't meet your needs, there are affordable Genesis child themes available from marketplaces like ThemeForest. These themes often come with support and regular updates.
License Transfer:
Unfortunately, licenses for Mai Lifestyle (or any StudioPress theme) are not transferable. They are tied to the original purchaser.
Updating Plugins and Core:
An outdated theme shouldn't necessarily prevent updating core WordPress files and plugins. It's crucial for security to keep these updated. However, proceed with caution and create a backup of the website redesign services site before updating.
