    Hi all,

I have been busily and successfully working on my 3 sites today (with the help of these forums) and was making a suggested functions.php code change for my Lifestyle themed site and now I cannot access anything. I went back and undid the changes I made, or at least tried to. (Not sure they took) Still nothing. Can't log in. Aarrgghh!!!

    Site is http://www.opentoabundance.com

I am not very technical and follow any instructions very carefully. If you have any suggestions, please give very specific step-by-step instructions.

I truly appreciate any help anyone has to give. Hopefully there is a solution!!

Best thing would be to delete the functions.php page via FTP and upload your backup copy.

Have you looked at your server error log? There is no source code being generated at all, which suggests a php error. Here are a couple of suggestions:

Try renaming the lifestyle theme directory through ftp. WordPress should automatically revert to the default theme for the version of WordPress you are using.

Turn debug on in wp_config and see what errors are generated.

All it takes is one bad character in a php file and your site may not load.

    HI again Victor,

At this point I cannot even access my Dashboard. I will try to get some help from either WP or BlueHost so I can go from there. I will ask them to check the suggestions you gave.

    Might be a long week!!!

    Lesley

You have to go through FTP to rename the template, not the dashboard.

Sounds promising! What is FTP and how do I go there if I cannot get access to the site?

FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol. You need a FTP client installed on your machine. Filezilla is a popular FTP client. Unless your network is down, you should always have access to the site through FTP. It is your backdoor so to speak. Your Bluehost account should have detailed instructions on how to access the site through FTP.

In case this can be of help to the next person like me... I found step by step instructions on Bluehost. If you search for the "white page of death" you will find what you need to revive your site. At least I did and hope you do too 🙂

Thanks to all for the help I have received over the past few days.

    Namaste,
    Lesley
