I would like to use featured pages rather than featured posts in the portfolio area. But when I attempt that, they stack rather than going left to right.http://solowebsolutions.com/gbs/
Without an example to inspect, all I can tell you is to adjust the CSS for the featured page widget. You'll need to provide a link to the messed up display in order for anyone to help you further.
I provided a link to the home page which shows an image that says No Image and the words beneath it that say Lumber and Sheetgoods. The next is an image of a saw with the words Building Materials. The third is just the words Specialty Woods. I went those three images/captions to be in the same row. Ah, I must need to add a float.
The CSS for the portfolio widget area is designed to work with the Genesis Featured Post widget to display 6 posts in a grid. If you want to use featured pages, you'll have to write your own CSS. Essentially, you have to give each featured page widget a width of 33%, float the first 2 left and the third right. It's too much code to write for you as a community volunteer. It could take an hour or more to figure this all out, but that's what happens when you decide to use a theme in ways it's not designed. If you don't know CSS well enough, I suggest you hire a developer.
Without investigating any further, could you not place a simple text widget into the 'Portfolio' section and use column classes to insert a thumbnail of the page featured image, a paragraph of text and a link to that page?
It wouldn't give you the flexibility of being able to drag and drop different pages, but if the pages are fixed, then it shouldn't be an issue?

I signed up on the forum today to find an answer to this same issue. If I figure it out, I'll post the solution here.
