The Modern Portfolio theme appears to have a few IE8 issues.

Check out screenshot in link below:

Just wondering has a conscious decision been taken not to support IE8 or is this just an oversight?

    Hey there,

I recently switched my site over to Modern Portfolio and noticed the same on IE. Seems like it's not picking up the float:left property of those portfolio images...

No solutions yet since I haven't had a chance to play with it more, but if I find some workarounds I'll keep you posted.

    Cheers,

    Carrie

Agreed, hit the same problem here.  Great theme so hope this bug gets sorted.

I actually built a whole site whilst testing with Chrome before having a check in IE - d'oh!

Presumably StudioPress will have to address this, anyone raised a support issue?

    Heya,

Don't know if a support issue has been raised, but I don't think the theme advertises compatibility across all browsers. I'm on  a mac, so need to figure out a good testing situation for IE. Don't really wanna, but guess I should. 🙂

It's looking good in IE9 so perhaps the steer will be to encourage people to upgrade!  tbh I'm OK with that, but there are still a tonne of people on IE8 I guess.

    Cheers.

I didn't know about this incompatibility issue. I am using this theme for a client. Can someone with IE8 tell me if it's not visually acceptable because I am using IE9. I need to make my client aware of this error. The site is - http://goo.gl/Ltvto. Thanks for your help.

It would be really helpful if Studiopress listed browser compatibility along with all the other theme details.

I have many clients still using IE7 (most can't switch - local authorities for example) never mind IE8. Much as I dislike it, you can't ignore IE8 and themes should tested in modern browsers before they're released.

I find that I can usually tweak Genesis sites to work in IE7 to an acceptable standard as I know they say they don't support it. But IE8 is another matter.

Anita - did you solve the issue on your client's site?

No, but I will send in a support ticket on this post to see if they can help us.

I submitted the support ticket to Studiopress and received the following response today.

Modern Portfolio does not work with older versions of IE. We are moving forward with CSS3 and HTML5 so Ie8 and older will not be fully supported on the newer themes.

Thanks Anita - I received the same response.

Which is all very well and lovely except for those of us creating sites for "the public" a quarter of whom are still using IE8. Many of them are still using IE7!

I'm a big fan of fall-back positions and graceful degradation as far as coding goes.

Spent quite a few hours hacking at the CSS to create some targeted IE8 and under rules (really don't like doing that). Not pretty, not valid but at least it works (for now).

Not sure that it would have been the end of the world if they'd created a conditional <= IE8 stylesheet.

Well, I don't have the skillsets to build an IE8 stylesheet for my client so I am "stuck like chuck" and may have to tell her - "I'm sorry but we'll have to find a new theme for you" after we just launched her website back in February.
