Modern Portfolio Coming Soon Landing Page

Is there an elegant, straightforward way to (1) redirect all visitors to my coming-soon landing page, and (2) allow me to work on the site and view my real home page behind the scenes?

I have already tried setting my home page as a static page -- using the landing page as the desired page -- but that prevents me from seeing my real home page.

I have also test run a number of coming-soon and under-construction plugins, but they prevent me from recreating the landing page as beautifully and perfectly as it is right now.

Hopefully there's an easy php, htacess or other solution? If so, please walk me through it like you would a baby taking first steps because I'm the ultimate dummy when it comes to these things.

Hi,
If you want simple, just try one of these "coming soon" plugins. There are scads of them. They present a non-logged-in visitor with a special page. Then you can test your normal stuff, because you'll be logged in. My designer client I'm working with is using "Ultimate Coming Soon Page" on a site right now, and it's decent.

Thanks, Dave. Of all the plugins I've tried, "Ultimate Coming Soon Page" tops my list. But I can't seem to deploy a slideshow (created with the Slideshow plugin) that works great on my original landing page. I've posed a question to the Ultimate team and am waiting for a response. But if you have any other ideas in the meantime, let me know. Been messing with this for too long now. I've activated Coming Soon Mode so you can take a peek if and when you have a chance. Thanks again.

Anything can be done, but you'd need some hacking skills, and this is well beyond the scope of Genesis support, to be honest.

I can point you in a direction. You could make an htaccess that will redirect anyone but you to a landing page. Best suggestion: just develop elsewhere, and then take it live later. Beyond that, just tell the client it can't be done.

The paid pro version of the Ultimate plugin (which is really quite awesome) does have slideshow capabilities but based on literature, wouldn't probably not give us the same level of slideshow options/control. So we opted instead to re-create the landing page elsewhere and point the main website to that page using a temporary 302 redirect (courtesy of the straightforward 302 Moved Temporarily plugin). Not as great for SEO as the Ultimate Plugin but considering the relatively short coming-soon duration, it'll do. That other site may eventually become our testing ground once the main site gains traction, though I am looking into developing and testing site locally on computer using wamp instead.

In any case, thanks so much for your advice, Dave. You've been most helpful.
