    Hi,

I have a WordPress site using Genesis and Minimum Pro, and it is working fine. But I wanted to test some new ideas, so I made a copy of the site and loaded it onto some spare webspace I have, so I can play around with it. Most everything appears just as it should, but a few widget areas on the home page went missing in this process. When I look in Customise-widgets it says the missing widgets aren't on that page (i.e. it's not just that they are not visible). Curiously, one widget area is still there. So I'm wondering what is wrong, and what is required to make a widget area appear.

    * The functions.php file code which defines the widget areas is still intact.

    * The Appearance-widgets section in the dashboard is all as it should be as far as I can see.

    * I can't see anything in the style sheet that makes the widget areas disappear.

So I'm wondering, can anyone tell me please, what else is required to make a widget area appear, that I haven't checked yet? Thanks.

Generally widgets only show if there's content in them.

Can you post a link to your spare webspace?

Sharing the good news about the wonders of modern CSS and the split-step. Either one should get you moving fast. 😀

There is definitely something in them. It isn't that the widgets aren't showing, but that the widget areas aren't showing.

    The webspace is at http://home.exetel.com.au/h2bh/

The original site has a whole bunch of widget areas that come as default (Site tagline and home-featured 1-4), plus I have added a whole bunch more (Start, Second-start, Start 1-4, etc) to show more links.

Now that I explain this, I can see that the default widget areas appear, while my new ones have stopped, so that has to be a key to the reason - but I still can't see what is missing, for the functions.php file seems the same as in the original which is working.

I just have to find, or remember, what else is needed to set up a new widget area.

Just preparing this reply makes me realise there was one more place I needed to check - that the right code was in the front-page.php file - but it too is the same as the original So I am still at a loss.

    Thanks for your help.
