Have you check your Genesis settings? I beleive there's a ( Include the Featured Image ) setting were you can control the image sizes for the thumb nails.

To speed up the process please post the link to the website in question.

I agree with leemarr. The directions provided in http://my.studiopress.com/setup/minimum-theme/#step-15 seem to be missing a few steps. They definitely need to be more explicit.

Did you add the images using the Featured Image function or did you add the image to the body area of the post?

i did both the way it appears at http://my.studiopress.com/setup/minimum-theme/#step-15 ...
that's two steps (insert + feature image) ...

i've been using another theme for years and it's a one step thing (using feature image) ...

The themes default images sizes in the functions is this:

    //* Add new image sizes
    add_image_size( 'portfolio', 540, 340, TRUE );

You have images that are varying sizes - both portrait and landscape. The demo is using one set of images all the same size. So with that said, try using the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and regenerate the images to see what happens.

ok i edited the functions and regenerated the features (only) ...

    the thumbs have changed to:

    image 3 = 540 x 432
    image 2 = 480 x 340
    image 1 = 527 x 340

    so the thumbs are not a uniform size (540 x 340) ...

Your original Image One is only 517 wide to begin with - so it will not crop it at 540 wide - it won't upsize the photo. Image Two is only 480px wide, so again - it won't up size it. So in order for the images to crop exactly at 540 x 340 - all of your images must be equal to or larger than - 540 x 340.

what would happen if changed the add image size to another ...
    it doesn't have to be 540 x 340 does it ...

i've got a kwik reference that i found somewhere ...
i'm not too sure i understand the difference between the ratios (ie. when to use) ...

    The 16x9 Ratio:
100 x 56 - not ideal (too small, requires image to be stretched)
200 x 112 - not ideal (too small, requires image to be stretched)
300 x 168 - not ideal (small, requires image to be stretched)
400 x 225 - more ideal (small, requires image to be stretched)
    450 x 253 - most ideal
    500 x 281 - most ideal
    550 x 309 - most ideal
    600 x 337 - most ideal
    650 x 365 - most ideal
    700 x 393 - most ideal
    750 x 421 - most ideal
    800 x 450 - more ideal (file size)
    900 x 506 - less ideal (file size)
    1000 x 562 - less ideal (file size)

    The 4x3 (8x6) Ratio:
100 x 75 - not ideal (too small, requires image to be stretched)
200 x 150 - not ideal (too small, requires image to be stretched)
300 x 225 - not ideal (too small, requires image to be stretched)
400 x 300 - not ideal (small, requires image to be stretched)
    450 x 337 - most ideal
    500 x 375 - most ideal
    550 x 412 - most ideal
    600 x 450 - most ideal
    650 x 487 - most ideal
    700 x 525 - most ideal
    750 x 562 - most ideal
    800 x 600 - more ideal (file size)
    900 x 675 - less ideal (file size)
    1000 x 750 - less ideal (file size)

The Portfolio page was configured with the current size in mind. If you increase or decrease the sizes dramatically, then the page layout will also change. So you'll need to modify the CSS accordingly. No way to tell you what or how to change it until you change your image sizes.

by the way i've just started using studiopress ...

    3 questions:

    1. would you consider a 450 width image (450 x 337 or 450 x 253) to be a dramatic change ...

    2. do you know where in the css to make that change ...

    3. shouldn't the minimum pro designer have made all this easier (ie take less time) ...
