This is a major step backward from the previous Minimum image. Although the instructions say there should be no subject, that is an incredibly awful thing for a photograph. Particularly for me, since I use Minimum for my photography bog.
No matter how I crop or size the image before uploading it, this theme screws up any potential for visual interest. I'm better off not having any photograph at all than the way this thing screws up the display of my images - any image - used on the theme.
A photograph without a subject is just a snapshot - a bad snapshot. Man, this is just a horrible design error in the middle of an otherwise lovely theme.

Better to make sure you use the right aspect ratio and the larger the better.
Look at the Agency Pro theme background image and it looks perfect which uses the same method as Minimum Pro.

Note: This background image does not need to be a specific size since the theme is responsive and will crop, shrink, and grow the image as needed. However, due to the nature of the effect applied to this background image, not all images will look correct. Images without a specific focal point, such as natural scenes that will not look unusual when only a portion of the image is displayed, will work best.
If there's a correct size, I'd love to know it. In the mean time, here is what I'm seeing. Check out the image on my site using the old Minimum vs Minimum Pro.

The differences is ghastly.

November 9, 2013 at 6:25 pm #71916WilliamMemberOh, I absolutely would prefer that. I just don't see how to do it in the instructions.

You would need to code that in your new theme.
I can help you with this if you would like to use the contact form on my site.
November 9, 2013 at 7:19 pm #71927WilliamMemberThanks, Brad. The existing image is 1600x600 - just like on the old site. I'll follow-up with you on your site. I appreciate the help.

If anyone else wants to change the header image of Minimum Pro to avoid backstretch and use a responsive image, please check out this tutorial. I just tried it on my staging site and it works as I expected and preferred.
