    I would like to put a thin vertical line between the main content and the sidebar, or some 'break' between the two.

    Perhaps even put the content in a block...I hope I am making myself clear.

    I know the open space is good, but my client wants 'lines' to separate the two.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    It's really hard to advise the best way without seeing the site.

    Generally speaking, you can use css to add a border to one side only, and you'll probably have to adjust the padding/margin to space it properly. Maybe something like:

    #sidebar {
    border-left: 1px solid #ccc; /* change #ccc to your color */
    }

    It will only extend the height of the sidebar. You can also add border-right to #content if that looks better.

    There's lots of ways to do it...but hard to say without seeing your site.
