I recently purchased Megalithe and I am having problems with some very basic stuff that has never, ever been a problem before. For example, I cannot get my widgets to display in the right hand sidebar. Also, I want my home page to show my blog posts like the Megalithe demo "blog page" -- but I am not able to get the theme to do that either.
This stuff should be very basic for a WordPress theme and even a complete newbie to WordPress (which I'm not) should not have to waste 2 hours of his evening trying to figure this out.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
Jon

December 9, 2012 at 8:52 pm #4093Jon PolandMemberYes, there is a tutorial that came with the theme. But it did not mention anything about how to get your widgets to show up in the sidebar and how to get your posts to appear on the homepage.
No worries. I should not have troubled you with this request.
This is very basic stuff that should be automatic with every WordPress theme. I don't have time to deal with this so I am just going to move on from the Megalithe theme. I don't like asking for refunds -- but I'm going to have to in this case. I've purchases several StudioPress themes in the past and I have been quite please with all the StudioPress themes. But in my opinion, Megalithe is an inferior product.
December 10, 2012 at 6:09 am #4138AnitaKeymasterUnfortunately, that theme is not a part of the PRO plan, it is a Marketplace theme so I cannot install it. If you are having difficulties, you should probably contact Zigzagpress who developed it to see if they can assist you.

December 10, 2012 at 6:14 am #4140AnitaKeymasterAfter doing some more research for you - I found the documentation here - http://zigzagpress.com/support/knowledgebase/megalithe-documentation/. And, I would have to agree with you - this theme is very substandard. How it made it to the Marketplace is beyond me. The so-called "widget" areas are not widget areas at all, but short codes for placing multiple columns. It would have made better sense to have them as 4 individual widget areas. This theme is definitely not for a newbie at all. Glad I didn't purchase it.

December 20, 2012 at 2:31 pm #6500rawdonMemberMost disappointed with Megalithe theme. Documentation poor, zigzagpress website almost non-existent. WP3.5 broke version 1.0 - currently on 3.4. Who signed-off on adding this outsider to the marketplace? I'll just stick to the StudioPress offerings from here on.
August 1, 2013 at 10:35 am #53569NandoJourneymanMemberI'm going to have to echo the feeling here. This theme is built in an overtly complex way, with multiple CSS files scattered throughout the theme's folder structure, and unyielding features.
The shortcode vs. widgets issue is further aggravated by lack of documentation.
The brochure looked great, now I'm concerned about the future of this client's website I'm just wrapping up…August 1, 2013 at 10:38 am #53570AnitaKeymasterA client purchased another theme and I had to complain to the designer. It took forever to for them to respond. But when they did, the response was "We don't offer refunds". So buyer beware.... My client immediately had me change her theme to another Studiopress theme and she's happy as can be. If you want something possibly of a similar theme, check out Appfinite.com. Wes has a few themes that might work for you and he offers great support too.

August 1, 2013 at 1:03 pm #53598slearyParticipantI installed this theme for a client a few weeks ago and am regretting it. Compared to the other themes I've gotten from StudioPress, Megalithe is a mess.
August 1, 2013 at 3:52 pm #53622AnitaKeymasterMy client got Showroom. I started working with it and my blood pressure went up! We scrapped it and went with Modern-Portfolio.

August 13, 2013 at 12:55 pm #56132MJMormarMemberSadly, I did not read all the comments before purchasing Megalithe. I assumed that as a StudioPress "approved" theme, it would not only function well but also come with at least passable developer assistance. Especially since I am new to WP and this sort of endeavor, I'm pulling my hair out...
August 13, 2013 at 12:59 pm #56133AnitaKeymasterAny code can be hacked, manipulated and changed. You can replace the column areas with widgets if you want. You don't have to keep them. It runs on the Genesis Framework, so I am sure your themes can be re-coded to suit your needs if you want to hire a freelance developer to do it for you.

August 14, 2013 at 5:26 pm #56432August 14, 2013 at 5:34 pm #56433medicMemberI bought the theme and now struggle with it like everyone else.... its the total lack of support and docs that frustrate me the most.
I am new to this so maybe I am being naive but I thought with it being a part of the whole genesis community I thought customising it to however I chose would be easier.
August 14, 2013 at 5:37 pm #56434AnitaKeymasterWhen you purchase a theme that's not a Studiopress theme.... one that's marketplace, they don't offer the same level of service. Like I said earlier in this conversation, you can add widgetized area that will show up and if you don't know how you can learn how to register new sidebars, etc., or hire someone to do some customized edits for you.

August 15, 2013 at 12:32 pm #56617MJMormarMemberMost recent issue is that WP tells me there is a newer version of Megalithe (1.6) available, but StudioPress only shows 1.5 to download. The developer (or whoever actually answers questions there, I suspect on offsite company) insists that "We always make sure that when we do some updates, we update also the theme from studiopress. So you can download the latest version in there."
