    Hi All,

    I am new to StudioPress but am still asking dumb questions. My choice of the Magazine Pro child theme seems good as I have been able to get my site (http://techEnablement.com) running quickly - plus the Magazine Pro child theme has been praised in the comments for it's clean look.

    My challenge is the selection if image sizes in the "Genesis - Featured Posts" widget. It either lets me choose 1:1 small images or roughly 1.8:1 aspect ratio larger images. Cropping when a featured image (1.8:1) moves to a (1:1) recent post page does not look as professional as I would like.

    How do I add an image size that can be used by the "Genesis - Featured Posts" widget that will have more of a 1.8:1 aspect ratio but still be small so I don't mess up nice look of the primary sidebar.

    Thanks!

    You can add another image size to your theme (this is NOT a dumb question, by the way) that you'll be able to choose in the featured posts widget. It does require editing functions.php but I promise it's not too bad!

    If you open functions.php you'll see a section like this:

    //* Add new image sizes
    add_image_size( 'home-middle', 360, 200, true );
    add_image_size( 'home-top', 750, 420, true );
    add_image_size( 'sidebar-thumbnail', 100, 100, true );

    Those are the image sizes that are standard for Magazine Pro. So you can add a line underneath it like this:

    //* Add new image sizes
    add_image_size( 'home-middle', 360, 200, true );
    add_image_size( 'home-top', 750, 420, true );
    add_image_size( 'sidebar-thumbnail', 100, 100, true );
    add_image_size( 'whatever-name-you-want', WIDTH, HEIGHT, true );

    Once you do that, you'll have that option in the featured posts widget where you choose your image size. However, for existing images on the site, you'll need to install a plugin called Regenerate Thumbnails. Once you activate it, go to Tools > Regenerate Thumbnails in your dashboard, let it run, and then your images will be resized to include the new image size. Hope that helps!
