Locked out of WP, email/username not working

Hey There,

I just got locked out of WP and my site. I was using it yesterday, then I got logged out (this happens normally). Today I can't sign in, and it's not recognizing any of my email addresses or username to reset pw.

Any thoughts on how to get around this?

WOW Tia, that's unfortunate.

The fact that it happens often might suggest an attack on your wordpress site.

A long, long, long time ago I got locked out of one of my sites and had no other Admin users assigned to it where I would still have access to the site.

I had to ultimately go into myPHP in my control panel and change the password that way to regain access. You would have to Google the process.

If you happen to have a backup of the last time you successfully accessed the backend of your site, a restore might be something to consider then a sweep of your site with a plugin called Wordfence and doing a regular backup with a plugin called UpDraft.

Both plugins are free but the Pro versions cost about $100 annually. I would certainly purchase the Pro version of WordFence but you can successfully backup your WordPress files and restore them with the free version of UpDraft as the Pro version does some things for you automatically and allow you to save the files in the cloud on Dropbox, Google Drive or wherever you tell it to.

Trying to help with this is a shot in the dark. There are many reasons someone may get locked out of WordPress. None of them are fixable without access to FTP or the database though PHPMyAdmin. Do you have access to either?

Thanks. I got it figured out, but not without a mini-panic 🙂

I was able to see a random user here, and delete it. I also added myself as a new user--I had been removed. However, I was able to get logged in again, but I didn't have full access to the site after that.

This helped walk me through it and I'm back on track.

I was missing a few key plugins, but as soon as I got them activated again, my site looks back to normal.

I am going to add a 2nd user profile for myself and one for my husband, should this happen again in the future.
