    On metro, archives have a Next Page» button (and Previous Page), but the front page does not have one allowing people to to get to the archives in the first place.

    I figured out how to add a link to a page with the archives, but it repeats the posts on the first page.

    How can I better achieve the Previous Posts or Next Page at the bottom of the blog homepage

    You could use a custom grid loop rather than widgets to display the posts.

    Thanks, that's great to know, but I tried that, then I lose the featured post feature.
