The Genesis eNews Extended widget is used in a number of themes and is required to get the results shown in the demos.

Unfortunately, it's also woefully outdated and I'm surprised something with such a poor user experience plays such a large part of so many themes.

Are there any plans to update this widget with something simple like a dropdown to choose an email provider and a box to add an API key?

As an example, OptinMonster allows simple integration with 10+ email services and allows custom integration via HTML for any it doesn't support. It's also GPL, so it may be a decent starting point since it performs the same function and has individual folders for each integration.

    Any thoughts/plans on this?

    Thanks!

Genesis eNews Extended is a great plugin which always works and is very easy to customize.

It includes easy integration with multiple email service providers.

It is also Developed by one of Automattics best engineers and works with every single StudioPress theme perfectly.

I got a reply to this saying that the plugin actually is easy to use, but don't see it anymore, so maybe it was deleted. To that I suggest doing a Google search for something like "genesis enews extended mailchimp" to see how many tutorials there are just to get it to work with one of the most popular email marketing services. We wouldn't see so many tutorials if it were actually easy to use. If you're still in doubt, sit down and watch someone struggle with it for the first time.

For example, here's a 10 minute video on just how to set it up with MailChimp! Is that the experience we want new users to have? Should they have to watch a 10 minute video just to get their newsletter widget how it looked in the demo using the most popular email marketing provider? Or would a two-click integration using the API be a user experience?

The plugin developer has done a great job, but it's 2014 and we have API's now. Besides, usability issues like this are the responsibility of the framework developers that continue to use this feature as an essential part in so many of their themes.

    Any thoughts on this?

I guess my real question is: Why not?

    Thanks guys!
