I am customizing the Genesis Sample child theme and need some help with images (please!)

Here is what I want to do:
    1) Display featured image at the top of a post and on index pages

I got that working using the technique here: http://www.webdesignlah.com/add-single-post-featured-image-genesis-child-theme/ But if there is a better way to do it please let me know

    2) Images need to be automatically resized to the correct dimensions

My client is not very technical so I would like her to be able to upload a high-res image as the featured image and have it automatically resized for the appropriate places (featured image, thumbnail, etc.) I have used themes that do this but I have no idea how to set it up.

    1. This is the recommended method.

    2. For newly uploaded images, they will re-size automatically. However, for old images you can install regenerate thumbnails plugin. Run this plugin, it will resize images automatically http://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

Thanks Davinder. When I upload a new featured image it does not re-size the file automatically. It displays the original (high-res) image scaled down to fit the layout. I want to automatically resize the image so that the page isn't loading a large high-res image.

    Thanks for your help!

If you have properly added new image size code to your theme, it should display small re-sized images.

    1. Follow this tutorial - http://wpsites.net/wordpress-admin/how-to-add-custom-image-sizes-in-wordpress/
    2. In Genesis Settings, go to content archive and select image size as per requirement (if you are using standard blog loop homepage).

Thanks Davinder, I am so close now!

The resized image is now displaying properly on the Category page! But the post is still displaying the high res image at the top. Any suggestions?

If you look at this category page you will see that the images have been properly resized:
    http://officethug.com/eggs/category/eggs-on-toast/

But the actual post is displaying the high-res image scaled down:

I just want the post to use the same image as the category page.
