    Hello,

    I currently have the
    Streamline Child Theme

    By StudioPress
    Version 1.0

And wish to update it to v.1.0.1

How do I proceed to make sure I do not lose any site settings?

    Regards,

    Vincent

Unzip the theme files and rename the folder containing the new theme files to streamline.new
Zip the folder and upload using:

    1. FTP
    2. File Manager in cPanel
    3. Zip the folder and upload it using the built in theme installer.

Activate the new theme and make sure everything works.

Delete the older theme version (Always take a backup before deleting/updating)

Have you made any customizations to your theme?

    Hello Brad,

I have made no modifications to the Php code in the theme files if that's what you meant.

What I am worried about is all the widgets, menus, etc.  I would hope I will not have to enter all that again so this is why I ask.

I was under the impression for this to work I would have to overwrite (most) files?

I ask this here because I have seen much info on the initial installation of themes but nothing about upgrades.

The widgets might move around but i doubt you'll lose them.

You might find them in exactly the same place or in the inactive widgets area.

You might also have to select your menu again but the menu items will not be lost or the menus.

    Any mods to CSS?

When I look at the Theme preview the widgets are there but the homepage shows:

    Homepage

This is a widgeted area which is called Homepage. It is using the Dynamic Content Gallery plugin and the Genesis - Featured Posts widget to display what you see on the Streamline child theme demo site. To get started, you'll need to download the plugin from the link given in the Streamline child theme's README file. Then log into your WordPress dashboard, and then go to the Appearance > Widgets screen. There you can drag the Dynamic Content Gallery widget and the Genesis - Featured Posts widget into the Homepage widget area on the right hand side.

I was hoping that by overwriting the files this would not happen....

I were right! I tried and everything showed up just fine. All I need to do now is replace a few modded logos.

    Thanks 🙂

You won't be overwriting the files. You'll just need to drag the widgets back into place
