    Is there a way to have the large image at the top of the blog post be different then the small thumbnail featured image that shows up in the blog list view on my homepage?

    Yes, you can use a custom function to display 2 different images however you'll need to add another upload field on each Edit Posts screen unless you want to add the same image.

    You can add the 2nd upload field using code or custom fields using the default fields or adding a plugin like ACF which enables you to add a image upload box.

    Thank you for your help. But I found this article (http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-multiple-post-thumbnails-featured-images-in-wordpress/) that seems to do exactly what I need, but I cannot figure out where or how to paste this snippet:

    <?php

    if (class_exists('MultiPostThumbnails')) :

    MultiPostThumbnails::the_post_thumbnail(get_post_type(), 'secondary-image');

    endif;

    ?>

    Can you please tell me exactly which folder and line to past this code so the second featured image displays as the thumbnail on the homepage and categories pages?

    That solution won't work in Genesis without using additional custom code.
