    Hi

I cannot seem to add a page to a menu, and I hope you can help me.

I'm following the exact steps in the tutorial: http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/use-navigation-menus/

    The steps are:
    - Login as admin
    - Go to Appearance -> Menu
    - Select the primary navigation menu
    - Select the pages I want to add to this menu (left side widget)
    - Click 'Add to menu' (left side widget)
    - Change the label of the pages (right side widget)
    - Click 'Save menu' (right side widget)

But as soon as I click 'save menu', the pages disappear from the menu.

The only thing I can think off is that my admin user does not have rights to create pages/post, but I don't know how to change this?

    My website: http://momgoesonline.com

Thank you sooooo mcuh for helping me out - I really appreciate it!

    Hi Laura,

Is your user set up as an administrator? If you have access to Appearance > Menus, you should be able to alter the content of the menus. Have you tried this in a different browser?

Edited to add: I just noticed that your user doesn't have the ability to edit pages or posts? There should be at least one administrator user who has access to everything on the site.

    Hi Andrea

Thank you so much for responding!

Yes, I have tried several browsers, and I am logged in as an admin. I have access to Appearance > Menus, and I can do every single step of the process. But as soon as I click 'save menu', the pages I added disappear and it goes back to what it is today.

The only thing I can think of is that my admin user doesn't have editing rights (it cannot create posts or pages), so maybe that has something to do with it? If so, please let me know how to give the admin user these editing rights, so I can make the change and see if that solves the problem.

Also, I'm still on Genesis 1.9.x, so not sure whether that causes it?

Again, thank you so much for your help - I'm at a loss as to how to solve this issue!

I would definitely upgrade your Genesis framework first - you won't lose any of your child theme's customizations, I promise!

If that doesn't solve the problem, I'd be glad to take a look if you're comfortable with letting me log into the site. You can email me directly if you'd like and I'll see if I can help.

OK - I'll try to upgrade to Genesis - are you 100% sure it will not break my site? I have only made changes to style.css and functions.php, and I have create new landing page templates - which are php files.

As long as all your changes were made in the Magazine child theme's style.css and functions.php with nothing in the Genesis framework files themselves, you'll always be able to update the framework with no loss of customizations. Anything in your child theme's folder won't be touched.

OK - I'll do the changes (I only made changes to child theme files), and then I'll try adding the menus again.

If I upgrade to the new version of the child theme, will I lose the changes I made? (my child theme is Magazine)

Yes, it's very likely that you would. There is no reason to update the child theme since it's just a skin sitting on top of the framework - all the functionality that would need to be updated is in the framework itself. When a new version of a child theme is released, it's like using a whole different child - you would have to customize it all over again.
