I like the way my page looks, except I want the banner to stretch across everything, no white space on the left or the right.

Is there any CSS that would allow me to do that? Or can it only go as far as the text?

You need to make the image wider. You are displaying an image that is 760px wide in an area that is 800px wide. If you try to scale the image you run the risk of making it appear fuzzy. I would edit the image in PhotoShop to make it 800px wide.
