    Hey everyone,

I had a really bad experience with the previous Genesis Version when I updated it for my site in which I'm using the Magazine Pro Theme. The layout and the customised format that I created for my site were all over the place and I had to spend almost 2 days fixing my site to bring it back to normal state. I backed up my site during the update but I still had to fix it. I was very disappointed.

Recently, I have been prompted to update to a new Genesis Version 2.1.2 and I am very reluctant to do so due to my previous bad experience with Genesis update, which completely ruined the layout and format of my site. I don't trust Genesis anymore and I am scared to update to this recent Genesis Version 2.1.2.

I would appreciate if you could share your experience with me after you had updated to Genesis Version 2.1.2 on a Magazine Pro Theme. Am I missing out on a lot of enhancement layouts that are being added? Is there anything I should worry about? Is it worth updating to Genesis Version 2.1.2? Will this ruin my site again once updated? I understand I have to back up my site which I always do. Please let me know if I should update my Genesis using Magazine Pro Theme.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

    Many thanks.

Have you considered always keeping a copy of your site local? As in, on your computer? This is an easy way to update Genesis, WordPress and plugins without the worry of the live site crashing.

It honestly only takes about 10 minutes to do and there are videos to help you..

Make a copy of your child theme, put it onto your local install and import all your content. Then when an update comes, just do it on your local site first. If everything is ok then do it on your live site.

The other option of course is managed hosting, which often means you get a 'staging area' site to test updates.

oh and if you're on mac...

I apologise that its not a direct answer to your question. I don't use that particular child theme so I cannot tell you my experience, but for sure, setting up a local install where you can test updates will ensure you'll never need to ask the question again.
